Disney’s latest Star Wars production, titled The Acolyte, has sparked controversy since its release and suffered from extensive negative review-bombing. Despite this, the show remained a popular topic among fans who engaged in lively discussions about its intriguing characters and connections to the expansive Star Wars universe.

Upcoming new projects

Here, we will share a collection of recently confirmed projects from Lucasfilm and Disney. Unannounced and speculated initiatives are excluded.

1. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew – TBA 2024

“Star Wars: Skeleton Crew,” set in the same timeline as “The Mandalorian,” is an upcoming project in the universe. This series will introduce Jude Law as an undisclosed Force user and several child actors. According to the official synopsis, “this story follows the adventure of four kids who stumble upon a surprising discovery on their supposed safe planet, leading them into the unfamiliar and perilous galaxy. Their journey home will bring encounters with unexpected allies and adversaries.” The release date is set for 2024, but an exact launch date has yet to be announced.

2. LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – September 13, 2024

If you’re in search of a light-hearted and entertaining experience, particularly for younger audiences, the LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy project is definitely worth checking out. With a proven track record of success, this series will offer the voices of Ahmed Best and Mark Hamill, among other familiar stars. According to the official description, “A young boy named Sig Greebling stumbles upon an ancient relic that has the power to alter reality at will. In his quest to make things right, he enlists the help of a mysterious and long-forgotten Jedi.” The series will be presented in four episodes, all set for release on Disney+ on September 13, 2024.

3. The Mandalorian & Grogu – May 22, 2026

The highly anticipated new project, “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” is poised to continue the beloved series in the form of a feature film. Written by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, with Favreau also directing, and featuring the return of Pascal, production is underway with a planned release on May 22, 2026, worldwide.

4. Untitled New Jedi Order film – TBA

As an avid fan, I’ve noticed quite a buzz online about this upcoming movie that’s reminiscent of “The Acolyte,” serving as a sequel to “Episode IX” in the Sequel Trilogy. In this new installment, Rey, played by Daisy Ridley once again, takes the lead in establishing a fresh start for the Jedi Order. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy steps up as the director, and Steven Knight pens the script. Although we’re currently in the pre-production phase, no definite release date has been announced yet.

5. Untitled Dawn of the Jedi film – TBA

As a longtime fan of the Star Wars saga, I’m absolutely thrilled about James Mangold’s upcoming movie. With his unique storytelling abilities and his collaboration with Beau Willimon on both writing and directing, this film is poised to give us new insights into the origins of the Force and the Jedi Order. As someone who has grown up with Star Wars being a constant presence in my life, I can’t wait to see how Mangold and Willimon bring this rich history to life. Although there’s no release date set yet, I have faith that it will be worth the wait.

6. Untitled New Republic film – TBA

As a long-time fan of Star Wars and an avid consumer of its expansive lore, I am thrilled to share my perspective on this intriguing new development in the franchise. Dave Filoni, a beloved figure in the Star Wars community, is set to helm an upcoming movie that will delve into the more recent history of this galaxy far, far away. His involvement as both director and writer promises a unique and captivating take on the New Republic era.

Upcoming continuations

In this part, we’ll share a collection of officially announced sequels or new series (from Lucasfilm and Disney), with rumored ones left out.

1. Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures, Season 2 – August 14, 2024

The first season of “Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures,” which drew large crowds of young fans and came to an end in February 2024 with a total of 25 episodes, will be followed by a second season. This new chapter is set to debut on August 14, 2024.

2. The Mandalorian, Season 4 – TBA

I’m thrilled to share that not only have we talked about “The Mandalorian” and “Grogu” in the past, but there’s more good news: A fourth season of “The Mandalorian” has been officially announced! However, I can’t say for sure if it will come out before or after the upcoming movie. At present, we don’t even have a release window for the new season yet.

3. Andor, Season 2 – TBA (likely 2025)

Disney’s original series, Andor, gained significant popularity without relying on classic Star Wars elements like Jedi or Sith. Diego Luna delivered an impressive performance, captivating fans who eagerly anticipate a second and final season. Originally slated for August 2024, production issues may delay the release to 2025; however, an exact date has yet to be announced.

4. Ahsoka, Season 2 – TBA

As a passionate gamer and avid fan of “The Mandalorian,” I was thrilled to see the introduction of Ahsoka in the series. Not only did it broaden the expansive universe created by the show, but it also offered an engaging opportunity to delve deeper into the backstory of Ahsoka Tano. The news that Filoni is working on Season 2 is incredibly exciting, although we don’t have a definitive release date just yet.
