Terminator Zero has officially been canceled at Netflix.
The show’s creator, Mattson Tomlin, announced on social media that despite positive reviews and a good audience response, viewership wasn’t high enough to warrant another season of the anime.

What did Mattson Tomlin say?
Tomlin announced on X that the show was cancelled, despite receiving great reviews and positive feedback from viewers. While many enjoyed it, not enough people tuned in. He had envisioned continuing the storyline into future seasons, but feels good about the show as a complete story now.
The new animated series arrived on Netflix as part of the popular Terminator story, hoping to bring fans back to the franchise’s original, more realistic and intense sci-fi feel.

Not Enough Viewers Despite Strong Reception
Tomlin made it clear the decision came down to viewership numbers.
He said Netflix was very supportive of the show and allowed him a lot of creative control. However, it was costly and took a long time to make. Because not enough people were watching, Netflix decided not to continue with it.
Tomlin said the event only made sense if people actually attended, but unfortunately, they didn’t.
That admission confirms the cancellation wasn’t due to creative differences, but purely business.

Future War Plans Scrapped
Tomlin shared that he’d developed a detailed plan for the show spanning five seasons. He had completed writing season two and created outlines for much of season three. This storyline would have delved further into the ‘Future War,’ something fans of the Terminator franchise have long hoped to see fully realized.
He suggested the series’ final episode was actually part of his initial idea for the show, and he was especially pleased with how it turned out.
Netflix suggested Tomlin create two or three more episodes to finish the story, but he turned down the offer. He felt the story he envisioned needed more time to develop, and he was satisfied with how the first season ended on its own.
They were willing to let me do two or three more episodes to finish the story, but I turned down the offer. I believed the story needed more time to unfold, and the first season’s finale ended on a positive note. It was a generous offer, and it shows they were good collaborators.

Could ‘Terminator Zero’ Return?
Despite the cancellation, Tomlin left the door open.
He mentioned he might revisit that universe in a new role someday, expressing his deep affection for the franchise and his happiness that fans appreciated his work.
Maybe someday I’ll do a big thread about the plans I had for the full five season run. The series finale was special and it was part of my pitch to get the job. I’ve written all of the season two scripts and outlined pretty much all of season three. https://t.co/io5KK7zjoO
