Jason Statham to Play Himself in JASON STATHAM STOLE MY BIKE

It’s a sign of a true movie star when they can playfully poke fun at themselves on screen – just look at John Malkovich and Nicolas Cage. Now, action star Jason Statham is joining their ranks. According to Empire, Statham will play a version of himself in a new film called Jason Statham Stole My Bike. While it’s not a remake of Pee-wee’s Big Adventure (we were hoping Statham would play the bike thief!), it’s being directed by David Leitch, who also directed The Fall Guy and Deadpool 2.

I’ve been following news about this new action-comedy, and honestly, details are still pretty scarce! What I do know is that Jason Statham will be playing a version of himself, which is already exciting. Apparently, filming starts in May with a massive $80 million budget – that’s a lot for a comedy, even one packed with action! The script is by Alison Flierl, who’s worked on shows like BoJack Horseman and the School of Rock series, so I’m hopeful it’ll be really clever. I think the studio is betting big on Jason Statham’s international popularity, and that’s probably why they’re willing to spend so much.

Let’s be honest, a truly successful comedy at the box office feels like a distant memory these days, especially one that justifies a big budget. Comedy used to be Hollywood’s reliable hit, but now, with endless options on streaming and everyone glued to short, funny clips on their phones, audiences just aren’t rushing to theaters for a classic comedy. Could Jason Statham be the action star to change that? It’s a lot to ask, but I’m hoping he can pull it off and revive the big-budget comedy!
