Before becoming famous for his roles in Star Wars and Marvel, Pedro Pascal was a New York actor barely making ends meet. He had very little money in the bank, but his rescue dog helped him stay balanced.
Though many recognize Pedro Pascal from his roles as a protector in shows like The Mandalorian and The Last of Us, he considers caring for his dogs to be one of his most important roles. He previously cared for a pit-bull mix named Gretta, and now shares photos of his current dog, Mr. Mingo, with his fans.

Pascal is well-known for his love of animals, which fans often point to as a positive quality. He’s a strong supporter of adopting rescue animals and has often spoken up for pit bulls, a breed that often gets a bad reputation, sharing how his own dog, Gretta, is kind and protective.
He reflected on his financial struggles when his daughter, Gretta, was born. He contrasted that difficult time with the comfortable life she enjoys now, and admitted it makes him sad to think about how different things could have been.
The actor is well-known for his love of animals, and this even affects his work. People on film sets say he gets easily distracted by dogs. For example, during a photoshoot with Esquire, the owner of a dachshund named Olive shared that Pascal was so charmed by the dog he had trouble concentrating on the photos.
Besides his work advocating for shelter animals, Pascal is incredibly busy with a demanding Hollywood schedule. He’s starring in Disney’s The Mandalorian & Grogu, which will bring the popular character back to the big screen in May.
The actor has recently joined the cast of Todd Haynes’s new detective thriller, De Noche, and will be taking over the lead role originally meant for Joaquin Phoenix. He’ll star with Danny Ramirez in the film, a noir story about a tough investigator caught up in a complicated love affair.
He will also reprise his role as Reed Richards in Avengers: Doomsday dropping this December.
Even though he’s famous, he still remembers the important lessons about loyalty and never giving up that he learned from his first rescue dog. This down-to-earth quality is why so many people like him, and he continues to use his influence to show everyone the amazing support animals can provide.
I’m a huge dog person, and I’ve always believed they’re the best companions. I’d love to hear any heartwarming rescue stories you have – stories that really show how amazing dogs are! Also, I’m curious to hear what you think about how much pets can help us heal and feel better. Share your thoughts below!
