Back in 1986, a young Brad Pitt gave an interview with Tiger Beat that revealed a lot about his ambitions. Even at twenty-two, he was thinking about the future, imagining what his life might be like in ten years. He jokingly predicted that by the time he was thirty-two, he’d have a family and kids he called ‘Brad Jrs.’ and hoped to achieve a career similar to Kevin Costner’s. Ultimately, Pitt wanted to be a well-respected actor who could deeply connect with audiences through his work. He also dreamed of starting his own production company, which he eventually did in 2001 with Plan B Entertainment. By the time he turned thirty-two in 1996, he had already exceeded those early goals, becoming a hugely successful and celebrated leading man.
Though Brad Pitt is famous worldwide as an actor, his first Oscar actually came in 2014 when he produced the Best Picture winner, 12 Years a Slave. He later earned an acting Oscar in 2020 for his role as Cliff Booth in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Because he’s successful both behind and in front of the camera, Pitt has developed strong preferences when it comes to classic films. He recently shared some of his favorites on the Video Club webcast, including the action-packed Deadpool and the suspenseful Three Days of the Condor.
However, he was most passionate when discussing William Friedkin’s 1973 horror film, The Exorcist. He believes the original version is one of the scariest movies ever made, but he wasn’t impressed with the director’s cut.
Brad Pitt was noticeably upset with the changes made to a recent film revision, particularly the new soundtrack and the switch from real sound effects to digital ones. He strongly criticized the re-editing process, questioning why anyone would alter a film that was already so good.
Pitt felt the original version’s powerful energy was much better than the smoother, updated version that ultimately replaced it. Currently, Brad Pitt is experiencing a peak in his career, boosted by the unexpected trailer for his new project, The Adventures of Cliff Booth, which debuted at the Super Bowl.
The film, slated for release on Netflix later this year, brings him back together with director David Fincher to reprise his acclaimed, Oscar-winning role from a Tarantino film. The $200 million production is a 1970s-set thriller about a “fixer” and features a strong cast including Elizabeth Debicki, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Scott Caan.
Brad Pitt is enjoying a busy time, both revisiting his role as Cliff Booth and celebrating the huge success of his movie F1, which earned over $630 million globally after its release last summer. A sequel to F1 is already being planned, with Pitt actively participating in its development and choosing the cast. He’s currently filming a new drama called One for All in Ireland, based on the novel The Riders, and has been seen filming in Dublin and Cork recently.
