The Film Angelina Jolie Says Was Not Sexy Enough for Her

Angelina Jolie is a major force in Hollywood, successfully moving from starring in popular action movies like Wanted and Mr. & Mrs. Smith to directing films such as First They Killed My Father. Though she’s known for her talent and has even won an Oscar, she recently admitted she wasn’t happy with one of her earlier, most famous roles. In the 2001 movie Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, she played the iconic video game character, but she’s now shared why the experience felt unfulfilling.

Although the movie did well at the box office, Jolie wasn’t happy with how her character turned out. In an interview, she explained that she felt the portrayal lacked depth and that the filmmakers struggled to make the digital character feel like a real person. She believed Lara Croft remained overly focused on appearance, rather than becoming a fully developed woman with genuine emotions. Jolie felt the character’s extremely sexualized image didn’t feel authentic enough, and she was frustrated they couldn’t reshape the story to make it more believable.

Honestly, it wasn’t just Angelina Jolie who thought that movie was a disaster. Daniel Craig was even more direct – he actually called it the worst decision he ever made professionally. He remembers the whole production being totally rudderless, and he’s right – you can’t even begin a film without a solid script! Apparently, the writing was a complete mess, all over the place, and he really struggled to understand the story. I mean, he was trying to make sense of a plot that included… eight-foot green monkeys! It just sounds like a chaotic experience, and I can see why he felt that way.

By February, Jolie had significantly evolved from her early roles, now concentrating on projects that are both meaningful and creatively demanding. Her newest film, Coutures, is scheduled for release on February 18th. Directed by Alice Winocour, this drama centers on Maxine Walker, an American filmmaker whose path crosses with a model and makeup artist amidst the whirlwind of Paris Fashion Week.
