The market, as usual, is a fever dream. Bubbles bloom and burst with the predictability of a poorly-trained circus bear. AI, they say, is the new god. The Federal Reserve, a sphinx mumbling riddles. And trade policies? A kaleidoscope shifting with every politician’s whim. Most sensible souls are retreating to their bunkers, clutching their gold (or, more likely, their stablecoins). But a trader, you see, doesn’t avoid the storm; he learns to navigate it. And occasionally, to profit from the panic. Here are three vessels I’m keeping steady, despite the gathering clouds.
1. Realty Income: The Monthly Ritual
Realty Income. A rather pedestrian name, wouldn’t you agree? It conjures images of dusty ledgers and meticulous accountants. Yet, it’s the sixth-largest real estate investment trust in the world, a silent behemoth owning over 15,500 properties. They lease space to the mundane—Dollar General, Wynn Resorts (a curious pairing, that), FedEx. The backbone of America, really. They pay monthly. Monthly. A soothing rhythm in a world obsessed with quarterly pronouncements.
The yield tops 5.1%. Not spectacular, perhaps, but consider the consistency. Thirty years of dividend increases. One hundred and twelve consecutive quarters. It’s almost… unsettling. Like a perfectly wound clock in a universe determined to unravel. The S&P 500, in its capricious glory, may soar and plummet, but Realty Income… it simply endures. They’re expanding into Europe, a continent ripe for… shall we say, practical investments. And their foray into private capital? A clever maneuver. A trader recognizes a solid foundation when he sees one.
2. United Parcel Service: The Brown Constellation
UPS. A fleet of trucks, vans, and aircraft, crisscrossing the globe like a network of brown capillaries. Delivering dreams and disappointments in equal measure. They move things. A profoundly simple, yet remarkably powerful, concept. Their dividend history isn’t as pristine as Realty Income’s, mind you. But they’ve never cut it since going public in 1999. A rare act of fiscal responsibility in this age of reckless abandon. A yield of 5.6%. Respectable.
The latest reports suggest free cash flow of around $6.5 billion this year, enough to cover the $5.4 billion in dividends (pending the board’s approval, naturally). And still leave a tidy sum for capital expenditures. The CEO, Carol Tomé, speaks of 2026 as an “inflection point.” A politician’s phrase, perhaps, but I suspect there’s truth to it. They’re shedding shipments for Amazon, a painful but necessary amputation. Reconfiguring the network. And focusing on higher-margin businesses – healthcare logistics, small and medium-sized enterprises. A trader understands the value of strategic retreat.
3. Verizon Communications: The Invisible Network
Verizon. Ubiquitous. Invisible. The company that connects us all, yet remains largely unnoticed. Like the air we breathe. They provide telecommunications services to consumers and businesses worldwide. A remarkably dull description for a company that underpins modern life. Their forward dividend yield of 6.1% is… alluring. Nineteen consecutive years of dividend increases. A testament to their… resilience. Or perhaps, their sheer size. It’s difficult to topple a giant, even if it’s moving at a glacial pace.
Free cash flow reached $20.1 billion in 2025, up from the previous year. And they project a further increase of around 7% in 2026. Impressive, if you ignore the fact that they’re essentially selling a commodity. The CEO, Dan Shulman, notes the recent acquisition of Frontier Communications as a significant milestone. Another politician’s phrase, no doubt. But I suspect he’s right. Verizon is at an inflection point. A quiet revolution, unfolding beneath the surface. A trader recognizes the potential in overlooked opportunities.
The market, of course, will continue to fluctuate. Fortunes will be made and lost. But these three… they offer a degree of stability. A quiet defiance in the face of chaos. A trader doesn’t seek perfection. He seeks… probabilities. And these, my friends, are probabilities worth considering. Though, of course, I accept no responsibility for your inevitable ruin.
