‘Shrinking’ (2023– )

Honestly, ‘Game of Thrones’ changed TV, and you can still see its influence on fantasy shows being made today.

This series, based on the bestselling novel by Rachel Reid, follows the heated rivalry and secret love affair between two pro hockey players. Billy Bob Thornton is fantastic as a guy brought in to fix problems in this incredibly high-stakes world – we’re talking billions of dollars and real danger out in the oil fields. It’s created by Taylor Sheridan, and it’s based on a fascinating podcast called ‘Boomtown.’ What really struck me is how the series doesn’t just focus on the money, but also the impact this whole industry has on the people and communities living through it, and honestly, the whole global energy market. It’s a raw, gritty portrayal of the people – the roughnecks and risk-takers – who power America’s energy sector.
‘Stranger Things’ (2016–2025)
Stranger Things is a nostalgic 1980s drama about a group of friends in Hawkins, Indiana, who face mysterious government secrets and terrifying creatures from another dimension. The show centers around Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown, a girl with special powers who is key to saving the town. As the series heads towards its conclusion, the friends continue their fight against the dangers of the Upside Down. ‘Fallout’ (2024– )
The new series ‘Fallout’ is set in a world destroyed by nuclear war, 200 years after the disaster. As a total period drama fan, I’m really enjoying ‘Bridgerton’! It’s set in Regency London and follows the love lives of the Bridgerton family as they try to make their mark in society. This season, the spotlight is on Benedict and a captivating woman he meets at a masquerade ball. Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha are fantastic, and what I love is how the show mixes beautiful costumes and settings with a modern feel, especially the music. It’s not just pretty though – ‘Bridgerton’ is smart about tackling social issues and really focuses on developing its characters, which makes it a standout in the genre and a huge hit on streaming services.
