Chris Pratt Reveals He and Katherine Schwarzenegger Took Premarital Counseling

Chris Pratt revealed that he and his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger, went to premarital counseling to prepare for their wedding in 2019. He discussed this on a recent episode of his podcast, Literally! With Rob Lowe.

According to Pratt, couples who get married at St. Monica Catholic Church are required to attend premarital counseling. He shared that they had about six sessions with a counselor he described as fantastic.

Pratt shared that the sessions were helpful for the couple in preparing for the future and preventing disagreements. He strongly recommended the process for anyone considering marriage, explaining that it covers important topics couples often don’t discuss until problems arise years later. He described it as proactively addressing potential issues—like ‘re-negotiating landmines’—before they become major conflicts, making it a really valuable experience.

He explained that counseling helped them create a set of guidelines for their relationship and wedding, addressing both major and minor details. For instance, they decided together when to start and end their Christmas celebrations: “We agreed to start playing Christmas music on November 1st and take the tree down on December 26th. We discussed it beforehand, so we were both on the same page,” Pratt shared. This advance planning helped them avoid disagreements during their first Christmas as a married couple.

Pratt highlighted that good communication and a willingness to compromise are essential. He explained that when people agree, they should proceed, but when disagreements arise, they need to discuss them openly and try to understand each other’s perspectives.

Rob Lowe, who has been married to Sheryl Beroff for over thirty years, also thought counseling was “a great idea.”

Chris Pratt was married to Anna Faris from 2009 until 2018, and they have a 13-year-old son named Jack. He and Katherine Schwarzenegger are parents to three younger children: a 5-year-old daughter, Lyla, a 3-year-old daughter, Eloise, and a 1-year-old son, Ford.
