Peacock is drawing in millions of viewers with its wide variety of popular animated movies and recent hits. This week, family-friendly films from studios like Illumination and DreamWorks are especially popular. People are enjoying both familiar favorites and new releases, including exciting sequels. The most-watched titles cover many different genres, from action-packed adventures to vibrant musicals, showing how much variety Peacock offers.
‘The Hunger Games’ (2012)

In a grim future, the country of Panem is split into twelve poorer districts and a rich, powerful Capitol. Each year, one boy and one girl from each district are chosen to compete in ‘The Hunger Games,’ a televised battle where they must fight to the death. When her younger sister is selected, Katniss Everdeen bravely volunteers to take her place. The movie, starring Jennifer Lawrence and based on Suzanne Collins’ novel, examines issues of survival, oppressive government, and unfairness in a world recovering from disaster.
‘Shrek 2’ (2004)

After their honeymoon, Shrek and Princess Fiona go to the Kingdom of Far Far Away to meet her parents, the King and Queen. They’re surprised to learn that both Fiona and Shrek are ogres! The Fairy Godmother then tries to sabotage their happiness by plotting to have Fiona marry Prince Charming. This movie also introduced the beloved character Puss in Boots, expanding the world of the franchise. It’s still one of DreamWorks Animation’s most successful films.
‘Shrek Forever After’ (2010)

Shrek is having a hard time adjusting to life as a dad and a famous figure in the swamp. He makes a bargain with the tricky Rumpelstiltskin to feel like a “real ogre” again, just for one day. This wish sends him to a frightening alternate world where ogres are in danger and he never met Fiona. Now, Shrek has to fix things and get his life back to normal before the day is over. This movie concludes the main story arc of the original ‘Shrek’ series.
‘Despicable Me’ (2010)

Gru is a villain with an incredibly ambitious plan: stealing the moon! He adopts three orphan girls hoping they’ll help him get into the lair of his rival, Vector. However, he unexpectedly starts to bond with the girls, who see him as a father, and this makes him question his life of villainy. The movie also introduced the lovable Minions, who quickly became incredibly popular. Ultimately, it’s a funny and touching story about finding family and changing for the better.
‘The Boss Baby’ (2017)

Tim Templeton’s world turns upside down when his new baby brother arrives – not as a typical infant, but dressed in a suit and carrying a briefcase! Tim quickly learns his little brother is a secret agent working for Baby Corp on a very important mission. They have to put aside their squabbles and work together to stop the head of Puppy Co. from carrying out a sneaky plan. This funny animated movie from DreamWorks Animation is about family, competition for attention, and features a great performance by Alec Baldwin.
‘Trolls’ (2016)

This animated movie centers around the cheerful Trolls, who are always dodging the grumpy Bergens. When the Bergens attack their village, Poppy, a relentlessly optimistic Troll, and Branch, a perpetually grumpy one, have to work together to save their friends. Along the way, they learn to understand each other through singing and exciting adventures. The film is visually stunning, with bright colors, and features a catchy soundtrack by Justin Timberlake. Ultimately, it shows that true happiness comes from within, not from outside things.
‘Despicable Me 2’ (2013)

I absolutely loved seeing Gru settle into family life after hanging up his villainous hat! He’s traded bank robberies for making amazing jams and jellies, which is hilarious. But things get interesting when the Anti-Villain League comes calling, needing his help to catch a new bad guy – his past experience is surprisingly useful! And Lucy Wilde? She’s a fantastic addition, and their dynamic is just great – you really root for them. This movie also gave the Minions so much more to do, and all the new gadgets were a really fun touch. It’s no surprise it was a huge hit – ‘Despicable Me’ just keeps getting better and better, and this one really cemented its place as a global favorite.
‘Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie’ (2025)

This fun, live-action musical takes Gabby and her grandmother on a road trip to the exciting city of Cat Francisco. They’re on a mission to protect Gabby’s dollhouse and all her Gabby Cat friends from a sneaky villain who wants to cause trouble. The movie stars Laila Lockhart Kraner, along with new faces like Gloria Estefan and Jason Mantzoukas, and is inspired by the popular preschool show created by Traci Paige Johnson and Jennifer Twomey.
‘Black Phone 2’ (2025)

This follow-up film continues the spooky horror story that began with the 2021 movie about a dangerous kidnapper. Scott Derrickson directs, building on the mythology of the strange device used for communicating with spirits. Ethan Hawke reprises his role as the frightening villain. The story focuses on what happens to those who survived the first film, as they encounter even more terrifying events. It came out in late 2025, after the first movie proved to be a hit with both critics and audiences.
‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ (2023)

Mario and Luigi, two plumbers from Brooklyn, suddenly find themselves in a fantastical world after going through a strange pipe. When they get separated, Mario teams up with Princess Peach to find his brother. Together, they must defeat the evil Bowser and save the Mushroom Kingdom from his plans for destruction. The movie boasts a famous voice cast, including Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Jack Black, and has become one of the most successful video game adaptations ever made.
I’m always curious to hear what everyone’s been loving lately! So, I’d love to know – of all the movies getting buzz right now, which one really grabbed you and why? Let me know in the comments – I’m always looking for my next great watch!
