It is a curious thing, this market. One does not require a great fortune to begin, merely a small sum and a patience that feels increasingly rare these days. The hope, of course, is that time, that relentless current, will carry even a modest investment toward something… more. A quiet comfort, perhaps. Though one should not expect miracles.
There are, at the moment, three companies that present themselves as… promising. Not guarantees, mind you. Such things do not exist. But they offer a glimmer of possibility, a chance to participate in this unfolding drama of artificial intelligence. A thousand dollars, if one can spare it, might find a small measure of growth within them. Though it is often the quietest investments that yield the most unexpected returns, isn’t it?
Palantir Technologies
Palantir. A name that evokes a certain… mystery. They deal in data, in insights gleaned from the unseen currents of information. Their recent earnings report was, by the numbers, satisfactory. A revenue increase of seventy percent. A profit margin of forty-three percent. Impressive, certainly. But numbers are merely shadows cast by reality. The true measure lies in whether their software truly solves the problems it purports to, or simply creates new ones, hidden within layers of code. They closed 180 deals exceeding a million dollars. A record, they say. One wonders about the terms of those deals, the compromises made, the expectations that will inevitably remain unfulfilled.
Nvidia
Nvidia. The engine of this new age. Their graphics processing units, these small, intricate machines, are in demand. Cryptocurrency, virtual reality, artificial intelligence… all hungry for their power. They have become, quite suddenly, a very large company. The largest, in fact. A testament to human ingenuity, or perhaps simply to our insatiable appetite for novelty. Their GPUs are, reportedly, “sold out.” A curious phrase. It suggests a scarcity that may not be entirely natural. A carefully managed supply, perhaps, designed to maintain a certain… enthusiasm.
Another strong quarter is anticipated. February 25th. The numbers will be scrutinized, dissected, and ultimately, forgotten. The market moves on, indifferent to the hopes and anxieties of those who participate in it.
Alphabet
Alphabet. A behemoth, quietly expanding its reach. Their cloud computing division, Google Cloud, is growing, fueled by the demand for artificial intelligence. Companies are eager to outsource the expense of data centers, to shift the burden onto others. A sensible decision, perhaps. Though it creates a new dependency, a new vulnerability. Google Cloud’s revenue increased by thirty-three percent. A respectable figure. But one cannot help but wonder if this growth is sustainable, or merely a temporary surge.
But it is their dominance of the internet that truly sets them apart. Chrome, Google Search… these are not merely products, but extensions of our own consciousness. They collect our data, anticipate our needs, and shape our perceptions. It is a subtle power, but a profound one. And now, they are developing their own processing units, TPUs, to compete with Nvidia. A deal with Anthropic, another with Meta… billions of dollars changing hands. It is a grand game, played by powerful players. And we, the small investors, are merely spectators, hoping for a favorable turn of events.
The market, of course, cares little for our hopes or anxieties. It is a relentless force, indifferent to our dreams of quiet comfort. It simply goes on, full of unrealized potential, and the quiet, persistent ache of things left undone.
