Craig Robinson has temporarily taken a break from comedy, as announced by him on Instagram to the surprise of his followers.
In a video message to his fans, Robinson announced, “Hello everyone! I feel compelled to share some personal news with you: I’ve decided to step away from comedy. It’s been an incredible journey, and your support has meant the world to me. However, I find myself drawn towards something larger.
As a devoted enthusiast, I’ve decided to share some exciting news: I am stepping away from comedy to fully embrace my true passion. Keep an eye out for the amazing project I’m currently working on. I can’t express enough my gratitude towards each of you. Thank you so much, and I look forward to updating you soon!
From The Office to stand-up and music
Craig Robinson gained widespread recognition for his role as Darryl Philbin on the popular NBC series The Office. Since then, he’s appeared on various television shows such as The Cleveland Show, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Ghosted, and more. His comedic talents have also been showcased in films like Pineapple Express, Hot Tub Time Machine, This Is the End, Sausage Party, Dolemite Is My Name, and others.
Apart from his acting career, Robinson is also recognized for his live performances in comedy and music. Since 2007, he has been a member of the funk/hip-hop/R&B band The Nasty Delicious. In an interview with Vulture’s Good One podcast in 2022, he expressed that being with the band makes him feel as if he can soar, similar to attending an Earth, Wind & Fire concert. He further mentioned that there are instances when his feelings overpower him during conducting and performing, which he finds truly remarkable.
Here’s what fans and celebs are saying
Supporters and acquaintances swiftly commented on Robinson’s announcement of leaving comedy. Fellow comedian Howie Mandel playfully quipped, “Dancing can be hard, but give it a try.” Arsenio Hall chimed in with, “Do you feel called to be a preacher? ‘If loving you is wrong, I don’t wanna be correct’! #seizeit #goodluck.
David Arquette expressed his hope that the upcoming project might involve music. His co-star from The Office, Kate Flannery, cheered him on, saying “You’re incredible at whatever you decide to do!” Even in her response, Kate couldn’t help but reference The Office when she wished him well, saying “Go big, my friend!”. One enthusiastic fan playfully suggested, “Are you perhaps planning a warehouse for paper… maybe?”, another nod to their shared history on the show.
Craig Robinson teases new business plans
After making a significant announcement, Robinson shared another Instagram post seeking advice on managing a small business. In simple terms, he penned, “I’ve realized that having a dream and actually building a business with friends are two entirely distinct matters. At the moment, I can’t disclose specifics, but any guidance would be incredibly valuable.” Thus far, Robinson has chosen to keep the particulars of his new endeavor confidential.
