Art is more important than ever. It allows us to imagine the worlds we long for and fuels our inner creativity. Sharing and experiencing art is a gift, and supporting artists is essential to what makes us human. In New York City, there’s a remarkable organization called The Segue Foundation that has championed writers and poets for decades, and deserves to be known.
Since 1976, The Segue Foundation has championed innovative poetry, providing a platform for its creation and dissemination. Beyond publishing key poetry journals that captured the evolution of poetic styles, the foundation runs Roof Books, fostering communities of experimental writers globally. They also supported the Incisions Arts Project, offering poetry workshops to those in prison. Perhaps most notably, The Segue Foundation has hosted a continuous reading series since 1978, bringing poets and audiences together to this day.
The Segue Reading Series has been showcasing poets for 48 years and continues today, providing a space for artists to share their work and audiences to enjoy it. The series is known for being one of the longest-running and best-documented poetry readings, with many events available as audio or video recordings. Notably, Segue also pays its featured poets, which is a wonderful commitment to the arts.
As a huge fan of poetry, I always make time for The Segue Reading Series when I’m in New York City. It’s currently held at the Artists Space galleries, and it’s become a real institution for poetry lovers. The best part? It’s super affordable – just a suggested $5 donation, and all the money goes straight to the poets! And if I can’t make it there in person, which happens, it’s fantastic that they also offer a virtual option through Zoom. It’s honestly a great way to support artists and enjoy some incredible poetry, no matter where you are.

The Segue Reading Series is hosting some fantastic artists you won’t want to miss! We at TopMob found out about it because Eric Bogosian, known for his role in Interview with the Vampire, will be performing. He’ll be joined by author Bunny Rogers. You can find a complete list of all the talented artists participating on their website.

Additionally, the details to attend The Segue Reading Series’ events are below:
Join us on Saturdays from 5:00 to 6:30 pm Eastern Time for a live event at Artists Space, also streamed on Zoom! Doors open at 4:30 pm – come early to enjoy the art on display.
