Zenless Zone Zero 2.1 – release date, events, and features

In July 2025, we can expect the release of The Imminent Surge of Waves – Version 2.1 of Zenless Zone Zero, and HoYoverse has unveiled the upcoming events and content updates for fans in the summer update.

‘Summer’ is the theme for the upcoming characters Yuzuha and Alice, who will debut in ZZZ 2.1 wearing beach outfits, along with their Proxies. In addition to advancing the main story, ZZZ 2.1 will feature a significant summer event. To commemorate the one-year anniversary of ZZZ’s release, players can collect 1,600 Polychromes from today until the end of Version 2.1 by checking their in-game mailbox.

On July 16, 2025, the new version 2.1 of ZZZ will become available for download on PC, PlayStation 5, iOS devices, Android smartphones, and Xbox Series X|S.

ZZZ 2.1 story, characters, and maps

Porcelumex and TOPS have begun investigating the Exaltists on Waifei Peninsula, a topic that will be explored further in Season 2, Chapter 2, delving into the findings and repercussions of their probe.

In the world of ZZZ, I’m thrilled to be part of the excitement surrounding Version 2.1! This update brings two extraordinary characters into the spotlight: Ukinami Yuzuha and Alice Thymefield. These two make up the unconventional team at Spook Shack, each holding a rank S in their respective domains. Yuzuha excels in providing Physical DMG support, while Alice shines in the Anomaly category. Both of these exceptional agents can be found on the ZZZ 2.1 banners, ready for recruitment!

In this latest update, Failume Heights has been enlarged – a serendipitous find made by a player who accidentally fell through the ground during gameplay. Beneath Failume Heights lies Sailume Bay and nestled within Thrones Quarter you’ll discover Fantasy Resort. Moreover, players can now delve into new regions in Lemnian Hollow for further exploration.

During Tales of Midsummer Dreams, players will experience a story focused on Yuzuha and Alice.

ZZZ 2.1 events and anniversary rewards

The following events will be available during ZZZ 2.1:

  • Tales of Midsummer Dreams – summer event focusing on the Proxies taking a vacation to the (haunted) Fantasy Resort with Yuzuha and Alice and restoring it to its former glory; gameplay includes surfing, target shooting from a boat, fishing, and some management; rewards include Polychromes.
  • En-Nah Chess Legend – Bangboo-themed auto chess event with solo and multiplayer modes; rewards include Polychromes and a dynamic menu wallpaper.
  • Endless Tower: Glory – new combat mode rewarding players for combining different moves and avoiding taking damage; rewards include Polychromes.
  • Hollow Zero: Phantom Paths – new updates to Hollow Zero with special gear for Yuzuha and Alice; rewards include Polychromes.
  • Ghost Ship Adventure – combat event with side-scrolling stages; rewards include Polychromes.
  • JoJo’s Space Mystery – investigation event in the Lemnian Hollow; rewards include Polychromes.
  • Failume Summer Puzzle – puzzle event; rewards include Polychromes and Boopons.
  • Legend of the Marvelous Fish Stall – exchange event; rewards include Polychromes.
  • Advanced Bounty: Routine Cleanup – double drops from Routine Cleanup.
  • Data Bounty: Combat Simulation – double drops from Combat Simulations.
  • Check-in Event – login event for 10 Encrypted Master Tapes and 10 Boopons.

ZZZ 2.1 features and changes

New Outfits

The new characters, Yuzuha and Alice, will have swimsuits or similar attire available for purchase, making them beach-ready within the game. You can obtain these outfits from the in-game shop.

Furthermore, both Belle and Wise will sport new summer attires in the upcoming version, which are provided at no cost. In addition to the Suibian Temple Outfits presented for Proxies in ZZZ 2.0, there will be three extra accessory options added in Version 2.1.

Improvements to the outfit preview screen round out the skin-related changes and additions.

New Core Skill Material

As an excited fan, I can’t wait to share some thrilling news! Starting soon at the HIA Club, we’ll have a fresh Combat Challenge up for grabs. Completing this challenge will earn players precious Poisonous Blade materials. These rare drops are just what you need to boost the Core Skill of your new characters, taking their abilities to the next level!

Reworked Fishing

The fishing minigame has been reworked, which includes the introduction of an auto-fishing feature.

Optimizations

Enhanced personalization features for remapping controls, optimized shortcut wheel updates, clearer guide paths on maps for easier navigation, and a convenient “favorite” button for rapid access to travel destinations are all planned.

We’re working on making it easier to customize your controller settings, improving the shortcuts, adding helpful map markers for navigation, and creating a quick-access button for your favorite locations.

Improvements to the Suibian Temple Restoration could involve reorganizing items for easier navigation and streamlining transitions between features like crafting and Good Goods. This refinement aims to create a more efficient and seamless experience in the management mode, enhancing it to new heights.

1. On the “Agent” interface, characters will be organized according to their factions in ZZZ 2.1.

2. In the Compendium, players can expect a tenth level of tutorial tasks with added incentives.

3. The team is planning to optimize storage on our devices by implementing innovative compression techniques for video files.

Finally Zhenyu Li himself edited a special thank-you video for fans, celebrating ZZZ’s first year.
