Crunchyroll announced that subscription prices increased on February 2nd. The Fan tier now costs $9.99 per month, the Mega Fan tier is $13.99, and the Ultimate Fan tier is $17.99. While price increases are typical for streaming services, Crunchyroll is responding with a new initiative: they’re launching Crunchyroll Games and will be creating their own original video games.

This is a compelling reason to consider a Crunchyroll subscription. They’ll be adding exclusive games to the Crunchyroll Game Vault, and more details about these titles will be revealed later this year. Crunchyroll says they’re working with both Japanese and international game companies to create games specifically designed for anime fans. While we don’t have many specifics yet, it’s definitely something to look forward to.
As a huge anime fan, I was really excited when Crunchyroll launched the Game Vault back in November 2023 – it’s a neat perk if you’re a Mega or Ultimate Fan subscriber. They’ve already got over 80 games available, and they’re planning to hit 100 by this summer! I’ve been checking it out, and some of the exclusive titles are pretty cool – things like Shin chan: Shiro & the Coal Town, STEINS;GATE, Shogun Showdown, and Kawaii Kitchen. Here’s what Terry Li, the general manager of Crunchyroll Games, had to say about it all.
Crunchyroll is expanding its anime offerings into games, recognizing the strong community of fans who enjoy both. By creating its own games, Crunchyroll aims to offer unique and immersive experiences featuring popular and new characters. They’re thrilled to provide fans with fresh ways to connect with the stories and characters they love, and plan to continually add new titles to the Crunchyroll Game Vault, enhancing the value of a Crunchyroll subscription.
Are There Other Changes to the Crunchyroll Platform?
In addition to the games currently being worked on, several more titles are coming to the game subscription service soon, including Battle Chef Brigade, Cuisineer, Dungeons of Hinterberg, Pepper Grinder, and Pikuniku. You can find more information about how the price increase affects each subscription level on the Crunchyroll News page.
