As a huge fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean films, I’m really excited to hear Disney is seriously working on a new one! From what I understand, it sounds like they’re not just adding another movie to the series, but potentially reimagining the whole franchise – a fresh start, if you will.
Jeff Sneider reports that the studio’s new leaders are making this project a high priority, and initial plans suggest a fresh take on pirates and the story’s overall direction.
As Bob Iger prepares to leave Disney, Josh D’Amaro has been appointed the new CEO, and Dana Walden will be President. However, some fans are worried because of reports that Walden previously declined projects with white leads, raising concerns about future content decisions.

What are the Pirates of the Caribbean rumors?
Jack Sparrow’s Son Takes the Helm
The next Pirates of the Caribbean film won’t follow Captain Jack Sparrow’s adventures. Instead, the story will center around his son as the main character.
While no casting has been announced, the approach seems to aim for a soft reboot.
Margot Robbie Returning
Margot Robbie, who was once going to star in a separate Pirates of the Caribbean movie focusing on a female character, is now reportedly being considered again as the project gets back on track.
Although her involvement hasn’t been officially announced, she’s expected to have a significant role in the new movie and any future installments in the series.
Krysty Wilson-Cairns in Talks to Write
Krysty Wilson-Cairns, the screenwriter behind films like 1917 and Last Night in Soho, is in talks to write the script for a new installment. Her potential involvement suggests the film will likely focus more on female characters than the previous movies starring Johnny Depp.

Johnny Depp’s Status Still Unknown
Okay, so the new Pirates of the Caribbean movies are supposedly focusing on Jack Sparrow’s son and Margot Robbie’s character, which sounds interesting. But honestly, everyone’s still wondering if Johnny Depp will even be back as Jack Sparrow himself. It’s a big question mark right now!
I haven’t seen any official word about Johnny Depp coming back, even in a small role, but so many fans – myself included – really want to see him return. Honestly, it just doesn’t feel like Pirates of the Caribbean without him.
Following the last Pirates of the Caribbean film, producer Jerry Bruckheimer stated that the sixth movie is still being worked on. Despite previous rumors, Margot Robbie is still planned to star in it.
Bruckheimer said the script went through several revisions. They considered two different versions before landing on the current one, and Ted Elliott, a veteran writer for the series, worked on it initially before another writer polished it up.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has talked with Johnny Depp about a possible return to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise as Captain Jack Sparrow. Bruckheimer says Depp would likely come back if he’s happy with the script, but there hasn’t been any official agreement or confirmation yet.
