EXIT 8 Movie Adaptation Gets Terrifying Trailer

Released in 2023, The Exit 8 is a puzzle horror game where you’re stuck in a subway corridor that endlessly loops. The goal is to find the exit, but you have to be careful! If you notice anything strange or different, you need to turn around immediately. As you progress, the unsettling things you encounter become increasingly frightening and bizarre.

I was doubtful when I learned the game was being made into a movie. It’s a puzzle game that’s only about half an hour long – how could that possibly work as a full-length film? But it seems director Genki Kawamura has managed to do it. The movie showed at festivals like Cannes last year, and now NEON will be releasing it in the US. Hopefully, it captures what fans love about games like Silent Hill – something the movie Return to Silent Hill failed to do.

The short film Exit 8 feels like a disturbing, dreamlike experience, and intentionally so. It brings to mind P.T., the preview for the cancelled Silent Hills game, and makes you wonder if that could work as a full-length movie. If Exit 8 is successful, a movie adaptation might actually happen.

Exit 8 hits cinemas April 10, 2026.
