With Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films—and a third one on the way—introducing Frank Herbert’s world to a new audience, it’s natural that Dune’s rising popularity would connect with the growing interest in tarot. Insight Editions’ DUNE: The Official Tarot Deck and Guidebook beautifully blends the characters and settings from the films with the tradition of tarot, offering a unique 78-card deck inspired by the powerful Bene Gesserit and designed as a guide for self-discovery.

I collect many tarot decks inspired by popular fandoms, so I really admire the imagination that goes into creating the guidebooks and artwork. This particular guidebook perfectly captures the world of Dune, even including a message from the Reverend Mothers throughout time. The card meanings are explained through the perspectives of iconic characters like Chani, Feyd-Rautha, Paul Atreides, and the Bene Gesserit.

Despite its unique theme, the deck still follows the traditional structure and classifications of a tarot deck, including the Major and Minor Arcana. Since this deck is all about the Bene Gesserit, I immediately pulled ‘The Bene Gesserit’s Strategy’ – it felt perfect for figuring out what I really want, what’s standing in my way, and how to move forward. For me, it turned out to be about my health, both mental and physical. But honestly, it could be anything – your spiritual path, your finances, your relationships… it’s all up to you and what you’re focused on.

My tarot reading featured three cards: Temperance, The Devil, and the reversed Knight of Planets. Temperance suggested I’m actively seeking balance and happiness despite difficulties, and advised me to stay grounded and moderate in my approach. The Devil card cautioned against overindulgence, hinting at a personal weakness I need to overcome to achieve my goals. Finally, the reversed Knight of Planets indicated that even small, disciplined efforts can be very effective. Overall, it was a really insightful reading!
