Naomi Watts made a grand appearance at Carnegie Hall on Tuesday, February 3rd, for the premiere of the FX series Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette. This marks Watts’ return to the “American Story” collection, where she portrays the iconic Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

The 57-year-old actress looked stunning in a black Balenciaga gown with an off-the-shoulder design. She finished the outfit with long, white leather gloves, a chic detail inspired by Jackie Kennedy’s classic style.
The show’s premiere marked a stylish introduction to stars Sarah Pidgeon and Paul Anthony Kelly, who play the roles of JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette. Their on-screen chemistry was clear, suggesting they’ve overcome early challenges during filming, including some online attention about their costumes. As a total movie buff, I’m really intrigued by this new nine-episode series. It’s executive produced by Ryan Murphy and based on Elizabeth Beller’s biography, Once Upon a Time. From what I understand, it’s going to give us a really honest look at a famous relationship, showing that it wasn’t always the fairytale people thought it was – it could actually be pretty stifling and intense behind closed doors.
Naomi Watts’ performance as the Kennedy family’s mother is key to the show’s dramatic conflict. In the trailer, she delivers a chilling line to her son, suggesting no amount of public attention could adequately prepare a woman for the challenges of marrying him.
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis is a historical figure who continues to be widely studied. She was First Lady during President John F. Kennedy’s time in office, from 1961 until his tragic death in 1963.
After her marriage to Aristotle Onassis in 1968 and their divorce in 1975, she lived in New York City and worked as a well-regarded book editor until her death in 1994. The film Love Story explores how much she affected her son’s life, particularly during his brief and ultimately tragic marriage that ended in a 1999 plane crash.
Naomi Watts has been very active lately, solidifying her reputation as a favorite of director Ryan Murphy. She recently appeared in the popular Hulu legal drama All’s Fair, where she played a smart divorce lawyer with Kim Kardashian and Sarah Paulson. The show was a hit when it premiered in November 2025 and has already been picked up for another season.
Later in 2026, the actress will start filming the thriller The Housewife, alongside Tye Sheridan. She continues to work as a producer and is also dedicated to women’s health, promoting wellness through her brand, Stripes.
The series Love Story also boasts a strong supporting cast, with Grace Gummer playing Caroline Kennedy and Alessandro Nivola portraying fashion icon Calvin Klein.
