Mattel’s MATCHBOX: THE MOVIE Has John Cena Riding to Apple TV This Fall

Following the success of the Barbie movie, Mattel is planning a whole universe of films! We’ve already seen glimpses of a dark take on Magic 8 Ball by M. Night Shyamalan and a Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots movie with Vin Diesel. Now, we’re getting a first look at another project: an action-packed car adventure starring John Cena. Called Matchbox: The Movie, it’s based on the classic toy brand and will be streaming on Apple TV this fall.

First Look Images of the Matchbox Movie

New photos and the release date for the movie Matchbox were revealed at Apple TV’s press event on Tuesday. The film tells the story of a group of friends who grew up together. John Cena stars as a CIA agent who returns to his hometown and unexpectedly finds himself involved in a dangerous international situation. He’s joined by Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson, Teyonah Parris, and Arturo Castro. Like other upcoming Mattel projects, Matchbox is based on the classic toy cars first released in 1953.

I just got a first look at the upcoming Matchbox movie, and it’s shaping up to be a seriously thrilling ride! Sam Hargrave, the director behind Extraction, is at the helm, which immediately tells me we’re in for some incredible action. While it’s still a mystery how Mattel is weaving the Matchbox brand into the story, I’m predicting plenty of fast-paced chases. The cast is fantastic too, featuring Corey Stoll, Bill Camp, Danai Gurira, and Golshifteh Farahani. Get ready – Matchbox races onto Apple TV on October 9th!

Just to quickly mention, Matchbox is one of several interesting projects Mattel has planned. We’ve featured Peacemaker quite a bit, so we’re excited to see the former WWE star back in another action-packed car movie. We’re eager to see the trailer and discover what other details we can find – hopefully including some car flips!
