Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio have developed a remarkably close working relationship, similar to the one Scorsese shares with Robert De Niro. Scorsese has directed both actors in several acclaimed films and consistently praises DiCaprio’s abilities. In a recent interview with Deadline, Scorsese called DiCaprio a naturally talented actor who elevates every scene he’s in.
Scorsese shared that he and DiCaprio collaborate often because DiCaprio isn’t afraid to tackle challenging and complex roles. He pointed out that DiCaprio has a remarkable ability to bring clarity to even the most complicated characters. Scorsese also noted that DiCaprio possesses a captivating presence on camera—his face and eyes are so expressive that even subtle movements convey his character’s thoughts and feelings to the audience.
Leonardo DiCaprio is a huge fan of Martin Scorsese and often talks about how much he admires the director’s films. When asked about his favorite Scorsese movie, he chose the 1976 classic Taxi Driver, starring Robert De Niro.
In an interview with Scorsese and Charlie Rose, DiCaprio remembered seeing the film at age fifteen and being completely captivated by Travis Bickle. He initially felt sympathy for the character’s loneliness, but later felt misled as the story unfolded.
DiCaprio connected with Travis throughout the film, only to realize the character wasn’t who he initially thought. He ultimately called it the greatest independent film ever made, a comment that seemed to embarrass Scorsese, who quickly credited the writer, Paul Schrader.
Leonardo DiCaprio has had a remarkable year, recently being named TIME’s Entertainer of the Year for 2025. His latest film, “One Battle After Another,” directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, came out late in 2025 and has been a major awards contender. Based on a novel by Thomas Pynchon, this dystopian crime thriller won Best Picture at the Critics’ Choice Awards and earned DiCaprio a Best Actor nomination for the Oscars.
I’m already excited for what’s next from this incredible actor! He’s teaming up with Martin Scorsese again – this will be their seventh movie together! It’s called What Happens at Night, and from what I hear, it’s a really intriguing psychological ghost story. Jennifer Lawrence is also joining them, which is fantastic news. They’re planning to start filming in Europe this February, so we can hopefully expect it sometime next year.
