Brad Pitt often talks about his lifelong love of acting and filmmaking, something that started when he was a kid growing up in Oklahoma and Missouri. He fondly remembers spending warm summer nights watching movies at drive-ins with his family. He feels grateful for his career and believes stories are important because they help us connect with each other and understand what it means to be human, even when we don’t fully understand ourselves.
His path to Hollywood was a risk. He initially studied advertising and graphic design at the University of Missouri, but right before graduating, he told his parents he was going to California for art school. He later confessed in 1986 that he never actually enrolled. When he arrived in Los Angeles, he lived a very simple life, sharing a small apartment in North Hollywood with seven other people. He remembered they were broke and didn’t have much luck with dating, and they lived with almost no furniture, sleeping on the floor.
Before Brad Pitt became a star, he did whatever he could to earn money. He and his roommate even had a competition to see who could get the most humiliating job – and he won. It turned out to be working at El Pollo Loco, where I heard he had to wear a full chicken suit and literally flap his wings on a scorching street corner to draw people in for their opening! Apparently, everyone loved his energy so much they kept asking him to come back and work more shifts. It’s wild to think about him doing that before he was famous!
Looking back at Brad Pitt’s early career, it’s amazing how quickly things took off. He started with roles in daytime dramas like Another World and then landed on the hugely popular Dallas. I remember reading an interview with him back in ’86 where he said his goal was to become a truly respected actor – someone like Kevin Costner – and to eventually run his own production company. Well, by 1996, he’d already proven himself with unforgettable performances in films like Se7en and Legends of the Fall. And sure enough, he made that business dream a reality, founding Plan B Entertainment in 2001. It’s clear he knew what he wanted and went after it!
The 62-year-old actor continues to be very active. He just finished filming his new movie, The Riders, a thriller from A24 directed by Edward Berger, in Ireland this January.
Brad Pitt is currently working on The Adventures of Cliff Booth, a sequel to Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, which is scheduled for release in 2026. The film will be directed by David Fincher, and the cast includes Elizabeth Debicki and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
