Alright, settle in, folks! Shares of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD +3.95%) did a little jig today – up about 4%, if you’re keeping score. And believe me, I keep score. I’m in the business of making sure your portfolio isn’t doing the limbo. So, let’s talk about why this particular silicon sliver decided to perk up.
Now, some folks get all hung up on being number one. Like they’re competing in the Olympic Games of chip-making. But frankly, who needs to be Nvidia? It’s exhausting! It’s like trying to out-spend Croesus. And besides, second place gets a perfectly good trophy… and a potentially lucrative stock price, if you ask Wedbush analyst Matt Bryson. A smart fella, that Bryson. Probably owns a yacht. Or at least a very nice rowboat.
Second Place Could Still Be Highly Profitable
Bryson’s point, and it’s a good one – and I should know, I specialize in good points – is that AMD doesn’t have to dominate the artificial intelligence (AI) chip market. Honestly, all this AI talk… it’s like everyone suddenly thinks their toaster is going to become sentient. Relax! AMD can thrive just fine by selling central processing units (CPUs) for your personal computers (PCs) and those big, humming data center servers. They’ll report on this little dance on February 3rd, so mark your calendars. It’s better than watching paint dry, I assure you.
Apparently, there’s a bit of a CPU shortage going on. It’s like a digital gold rush! And when supply is tight, what happens? Prices go up! Simple economics, folks. And AMD, clever devils that they are, are already making some pretty pennies off these server CPUs. They’re practically printing money… digitally, of course. No actual printing presses involved. That would be messy.
And get this: the Trump administration gave the okay for some chip sales to China. Politics, schmilitics. All I know is, more customers mean more potential profit. It’s like finding a twenty-dollar bill in your old coat pocket! A delightful surprise, wouldn’t you agree?
Bryson thinks this all adds up to an 18% jump in AMD’s stock price – roughly $290 per share. Not bad, not bad at all. Of course, predictions are about as reliable as a weather forecast in April, but hey, a man can dream, can’t he?
AMD’s Upcoming Earnings Release
So, tune in on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. EST for AMD’s conference call. They’ll be dishing the dirt on those CPU sales and their grand plans for AI domination… or, you know, just being a solid, profitable company. Either way, it’s bound to be more exciting than watching your socks dry. And remember, folks, a little bit of smart investing can go a long way. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a yacht to… admire from afar.
