RiffTrax Guys Launch Kickstarter for New MST3K Episodes

Like many fans, I have a favorite period of Mystery Science Theater 3000, and mine is the era when it aired on Syfy, covering seasons 8 through 10 (1997-1999). When I remember the show, I always think of the performances by host Nelson, Tom Servo voiced by Murphy, and Crow T. Robot voiced by Corbett – those are the voices and episodes I enjoy the most. This new project, MST3K: The RiffTrax Experiments, marks the first time since 1999 that all three of them will be involved with the series. Filming will take place in Minneapolis, where the original show was made. Murphy and Corbett will also be back as the villains Professor Bobo and Brain Guy, and Mary Jo Pehl will return as Pearl Forrester.

As a huge fan of both RiffTrax and Mystery Science Theater 3000, I’m so excited to hear they’re teaming up with Shout! Studios, who now owns the MST3K rights! They’re both posting riffs and shorts on YouTube, which is awesome. Mike Nelson from RiffTrax said it best – revisiting MST3K after all these years has really gotten everyone fired up, and he even admitted he missed being around those classic plastic puppets! It’s great to see them working together again after so long.

Shout! Studios is thrilled to be working with RiffTrax to bring Mike, Kevin, and Bill back for more episodes of MST3K. According to Matt Arsulich, a Vice President at Shout! Studios, this collaboration demonstrates their commitment to supporting beloved entertainment and providing fans with great content.

The Kickstarter campaign started just this Monday and has already earned over $500,000 by Monday afternoon! With 42 days left, that number is sure to increase. While the topics of the four episodes haven’t been announced yet, backers can get rewards like digital downloads, Blu-rays, pins, and t-shirts depending on how much they pledge.

With Joel Hodgson already back hosting after season 13, bringing Kevin Murphy back as Tom Servo completes the original lineup. I’m really looking forward to it!
