STRANGER THINGS Gets Nostalgic for Itself in TALES FROM ’85 Trailer

The new animated Stranger Things series is set in the winter of 1985, following the events of season two and before the happenings of season three. The trailer for Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 shows the kids enjoying a normal childhood…until something terrifying emerges from the Upside Down, giving them no time to rest.

The new trailer comes with an official description of Stranger Things: Tales from ’85. It says Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, and Max are trying to enjoy a normal life with friends and games. However, something scary is stirring beneath the surface of Hawkins, and it might be connected to the Upside Down, Hawkins Lab, or something completely new. This untold story follows the group as they try to uncover the mystery and save their town.

According to Eric Robles, the showrunner for Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, this series allows viewers to see the characters in a way the original show didn’t – with time to explore new, untold adventures. He explains that a key goal is to make the danger feel real and impactful, showing that anything can happen to these kids and creating a genuinely scary experience. The recently released trailer and images definitely emphasize this sense of danger.

Because the actors in Stranger Things aged significantly between seasons, using animation is a good way to show what happened earlier in the story – especially since realistically reversing that aging process would be difficult. Fans are eager to see the characters’ relationships when they weren’t facing life-or-death situations, and that’s a promising direction. The trailer for Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 looked great! Like many popular franchises, Stranger Things will likely keep going, meaning we won’t have to completely say goodbye to the town of Hawkins anytime soon.

The voice cast for Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 features Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, Luca Diaz as Mike, Elisha “EJ” Williams as Lucas, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Benjamin Plessala as Will, Brett Gipson as Hopper, Jeremy Jordan as Steve, along with Odessa A’zion, Janeane Garofalo, and Lou Diamond Phillips. Jeremy Jordan, who voices Steve, was recently announced alongside the trailer for Stranger Things: Tales from ’85.

Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 will debut on Netflix on April 23, 2026.
