As a huge animation fan, I’ve been watching Crunchyroll really dominate the streaming scene lately. They’ve got everything – spooky thrillers, epic fantasy, and intense action. This week, the numbers show we’re still loving those classic, long-running action series, but also diving into all the new shows based on popular light novels and webtoons. It’s awesome to see what everyone’s watching as seasons end and new premieres hit the platform – it really gives you a sense of where animation is heading right now.
‘DARK MOON: THE BLOOD ALTAR’ (2026)

At Decelis Academy, seven orphaned students discover they’re not only brothers, but also vampires, tasked with protecting a girl with a hidden past. Created in collaboration with the K-pop group ENHYPEN, the story follows their fight against opposing groups, delving into themes of family and fate within a supernatural high school. This anime adaptation faithfully brings the dark, detailed world and story of the popular webtoon to life.
‘Solo Leveling’ (2024–present)

Sung Jinwoo starts as one of the weakest hunters, but after barely surviving a dangerous dungeon, he discovers he’s the only one who can get stronger. The story follows his incredible transformation from a nobody to a powerful hero, fueled by a mysterious system that gives him challenges and abilities. He faces intense battles against monsters appearing from portals, all while trying to save humanity.
‘Fire Force’ (2019–present)

Shinra Kusakabe joins Company 8 of the Special Fire Force to investigate the cause of people suddenly bursting into flames – a phenomenon known as Spontaneous Human Combustion. In this world, those who combust become fiery creatures called Infernals, and the Fire Force fights them using fire-based powers. Shinra can ignite his feet, giving him the nickname “Devil’s Footprints,” as he also searches for his lost brother. The investigation soon reveals a deeper plot connected to the Holy Sol Temple and a secretive group called the White-Clad.
‘Hell’s Paradise’ (2023–present)

Gabimaru, a highly skilled ninja facing execution, is given a chance at freedom: he must journey to a strange island and find the legendary Elixir of Life. He’s watched closely by Sagiri, an executioner from a powerful clan. The island is dangerous, filled with deadly monsters and other criminals all searching for the same prize. The story is packed with exciting action, but also explores deep themes about what it means to live, die, and find forgiveness.
‘Gachiakuta’ (2025)

Ludo is a boy from the slums who is falsely accused of a crime and exiled to the Abyss, a dangerous wasteland filled with garbage. There, he learns he has the ability to create weapons from the trash around him. He teams up with the Cleaners, a group dedicated to fighting the monstrous Beasts that roam the Abyss. The story follows Ludo’s journey to get revenge on the society that wronged him, and to discover the hidden truths of this forgotten place.
‘ROLL OVER AND DIE: I Will Fight for an Ordinary Life with My Love and Cursed Sword!’ (2026)

Flum Apricot starts with no special abilities and is abandoned by her companions, sold into slavery for being considered worthless. She soon realizes she has a unique, dangerous power – a cursed ability that lets her use incredibly strong dark magic and weapons without being harmed. Alongside Milkit, another slave she frees, Flum fights to survive in a hostile world. The story follows their growing connection and Flum’s journey to becoming a powerful warrior.
‘Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End’ (2023–2024)

With the Demon King defeated, the elf mage Frieren finds herself living in a world where humans age and die, but she remains almost immortal. Many years later, she takes on a new apprentice named Fern and travels to the land where spirits reside, hoping to connect with a fallen friend. The story explores Frieren’s growing understanding of the value of human life and the bonds she made during their ten-year adventure. It’s notable for offering a fresh look at what happens after the typical epic fantasy tale concludes.
‘Jack-of-All-Trades, Party of None’ (2026)

Hiraku is an ordinary worker who supports a famous adventuring group, but he loses his job when they realize he’s just average. He then discovers that his wide range of skills, while not exceptional in any one area, are actually ideal for surviving dangerous dungeons and managing resources. The story follows Hiraku as he forges his own way, demonstrating that being good at many things can be incredibly valuable. This anime focuses on the planning and strategy behind adventures, and shows how important often-ignored support roles really are.
‘Sentenced to Be a Hero’ (2026)

Hyllo is a criminal given a terrible sentence: he’s forced to become a Hero. In this world, being a Hero means fighting a never-ending war against the Demon King’s army, and it’s a guaranteed death sentence. Along with other criminals turned Heroes, he must struggle to survive against impossible challenges, all while being constantly watched. The story explores the grim truth about a society that sacrifices those it deems undesirable to protect itself from destruction.
‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ (2020–present)

After swallowing a fragment of the incredibly powerful Curse, Ryomen Sukuna, Yuji Itadori finds himself thrown into the hidden world of Jujutsu Sorcerers. To avoid immediate execution, he’s tasked with finding and consuming the remaining pieces of Sukuna, all while battling other terrifying Curses. He hones his skills at Tokyo Jujutsu High under the guidance of Satoru Gojo, alongside his fellow students Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki. The series is known for its intricate system of cursed energy and its thrilling, action-packed supernatural fights.
