Good news for fans of Game of Thrones! Following the positive reception of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, HBO is planning even more shows set in the world of Westeros. Sources say the network has several spinoffs in development, including both animated series and live-action shows that could explore different eras of the Game of Thrones story.
One of the most talked-about projects is an animated show centered around Lord Corlys Velaryon, a famous explorer and sailor nicknamed the Sea Snake. Known as AKOTSK, this series is based on three stories by Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin – each story will be adapted into a season. It’s the second Game of Thrones prequel to be greenlit, following House of the Dragon.
So, HBO isn’t stopping with just House of the Dragon. I’m hearing they’re developing a whole bunch of spin-offs! Deadline is reporting that a sequel focusing on Jon Snow and Arya Stark is in the works, written by Quoc Dang Tran. Plus, there’s an animated Sea Snake series called Nine Voyages that Genndy Tartakovsky is supposedly involved with. And if that wasn’t enough, they’re also exploring 10,000 Ships by Eboni Booth and a series about Aegon’s Conquest penned by Mattson Tomlin. It sounds like Westeros is far from finished!
Switching the Sea Snake project, also known as Nine Voyages, to animation was a deliberate decision. George R.R. Martin had explained that a live-action version would have been far too costly, mainly because it would have required building a new port location each week and featured extensive scenes at sea.
Fans are excited because Genndy Tartakovsky, the creator of shows like Primal and Samurai Jack, is working on a new project. It promises to be a beautiful and unique adventure, taking viewers to parts of the world they haven’t seen in animation before.
Steve Toussaint, who played Corlys Velaryon in House of the Dragon, has been busy working on the show’s third season, which is expected to come out in the summer of 2026.
Toussaint speaks highly of the impact his character has had, frequently referencing the adventurous early years of Corlys Velaryon and how those experiences built House Velaryon’s power and fortune. Beyond his work on the show, Toussaint has participated in theater productions in the UK and is a strong supporter of increasing diversity within the fantasy genre.
2026 is shaping up to be a strong year for Game of Thrones content. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premiered on January 18th, offering a gentler, character-focused story about Ser Duncan the Tall and his companion, Egg. Meanwhile, development is underway on Aegon’s Conquest, written by Mattson Tomlin, which could become either a dramatic TV series or a large-scale movie for Warner Bros., detailing the Targaryen family’s brutal path to power.
