TMNT II Coming Back to Theaters for 35th Anniversary

Last year, to celebrate its 35th anniversary, the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie came back to theaters and surprised everyone with how well it did. Now, the sequel – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze (the one featuring the Vanilla Ice song!) – is getting the same treatment. It will be shown in theaters for a week, from March 13th to 19th, 2026, in a newly restored 4K version. Plus, there will be a special behind-the-scenes featurette with TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman. The 1990 film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had a surprisingly successful return to theaters last year for its 35th anniversary. Originally planned for just two days, it played for a full four weeks and even made it into the Top 10 at the box office – which is unusual for a limited re-release. The film earned nearly $3.7 million, suggesting many parents who enjoyed it as children wanted to introduce Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael to a new generation. While the original trilogy was recently restored for a 4K Blu-ray release, many fans still prefer the experience of seeing it on the big screen.

If the current re-release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze does well, we might see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III back in theaters too! While the third movie isn’t as popular as the first two, it still has a dedicated fanbase. Plus, it’s been updated with a new 4K restoration. So, check out The Secret of the Ooze – if enough people support it, Fathom Entertainment and Warner Bros. might give the entire original trilogy a big-screen comeback!
