The One Movie Quentin Tarantino Recommends Watching More Than Once

Quentin Tarantino is known for complimenting other filmmakers, but he especially admires Paul Thomas Anderson. In an interview with Sky Movies, Tarantino called Anderson’s 2007 film, There Will Be Blood, one of the best movies of the decade.

Tarantino sees Anderson as a truly original artist today, once describing him as his closest and most supportive rival, and expressing how much he values their working relationship.

Despite recognizing the quality of There Will Be Blood, Quentin Tarantino considers Boogie Nights to be the better film. He appreciates the energy and excitement of Boogie Nights more than the precise, structured style of There Will Be Blood, even though he acknowledges both are excellent.

Tarantino noted that the film is so packed with detail and intensity, it really needs to be seen twice to fully appreciate it. He believes a second viewing is almost essential before anyone can have a thoughtful discussion, because the initial experience is simply too overwhelming – trying to talk about it right away would likely just be a confused mess.

Tarantino recounted a funny exchange he had with Anderson after watching the film. He admitted being surprised there weren’t more typical action sequences. Anderson playfully responded with just “thank you” and then jokingly asked if the scene with the oil fire being put out qualified as one.

Tarantino initially misjudged the film, but a second viewing completely changed his mind. He realized his first impression was wrong and that the large-scale oil fire scene was actually a remarkably well-executed and impressive moment in the movie.

Throughout the year, both directors remain prominent in Hollywood. Paul Thomas Anderson is currently seeing great reviews and box office success with his newest movie, One Battle After Another, which was released in late 2025.

This action-packed black comedy, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, and Benicio del Toro, is based on the novel Vineland. It’s been a major contender during awards season, earning the most nominations at the BAFTAs and winning Best Picture at the Critics’ Choice Awards in January.

Quentin Tarantino continues to generate buzz about his tenth and last film. Although he cancelled his project The Movie Critic last year, he’s still involved in new movies – he recently wrote The Adventures of Cliff Booth, a period comedy-drama that David Fincher directed. Filming for that movie finished in January 2026.

Brad Pitt is reprising his Academy Award-winning role for a new Netflix film, joining a large ensemble cast that includes Elizabeth Debicki and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
