Viewers who enjoyed the HBO series based on ‘IT: Welcome to Derry’ are eager for more, but they won’t find any additional story material from Stephen King himself.
The famous author, who just turned 78, recently shared his thoughts with fans. He confessed he doesn’t have the energy to revisit that iconic monster, and admitted that even he finds Pennywise scary.
Stephen King’s classic 1986 novel follows seven children terrorized by an ancient evil that takes the form of their deepest fears. The story has been adapted for television and film several times, most famously as a 1990 miniseries featuring Tim Curry as the terrifying villain.
The franchise recently became incredibly popular again with a two-part movie adaptation featuring Bill Skarsgård as the terrifying clown. The first of these films was a huge success, breaking records and ultimately becoming the highest-grossing horror movie ever made.
The HBO series Welcome to Derry expands on the story of the IT universe, taking us 27 years before the films. The show explores how the town’s terrifying curse began and finished its first season of eight episodes on December 14, 2025.
Even the original actor who played the iconic clown has a complex relationship with the character. In his 2025 autobiography, titled Vagabond, Tim Curry finally discussed the rumors surrounding his feelings about clowns.
Stephen Curry explained that although he wasn’t thrilled with how he looked wearing all the makeup, it wasn’t a severe fear like some gossip magazines suggested. He admitted the idea of playing such a frightening character made him uncomfortable, but he was also drawn to the challenge of confronting his own mixed feelings by taking the part.
You know, Tim Curry will always be Pennywise to me – he was just so perfect in that role. It’s been amazing to see him continue working even after his stroke in 2012. He’s mostly done voice work, which is fantastic, and he still shows up for fans when he can. I heard he’s doing a big event in San Francisco in 2025, a real look back at his career, and I’m seriously hoping to be there. It’s great to see a legend still connecting with people.
Released in late 2025, his memoir, Vagabond, marked the 50th anniversary of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and the 40th anniversary of the beloved film Clue. The book provides a personal and insightful look into his life, career, and how he overcame significant physical challenges.
Bill Skarsgård remains a very in-demand actor, especially after returning as Pennywise for a new prequel series. He’s also slated to star in the upcoming 2026 film, The Death of Robin Hood, playing Little John alongside Hugh Jackman.
He recently finished filming the thriller Dead Man’s Wire and will soon appear in The Mosquito Bowl. His talent for convincingly playing both frightening creatures and characters in historical settings has established him as a highly adaptable and prominent actor today.
The show boasts a talented cast, including Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, and James Remar. With Andy Muschietti as an executive producer, the series effectively connects Stephen King’s original stories to the world fans enjoy on screen.
