James Gunn Says ‘No’ to Robert Pattinson as DCU Batman

James Gunn has confirmed that Robert Pattinson will not be joining the main DC Universe as Batman, ending rumors about his potential involvement.

Someone asked on Threads if Robert Pattinson might play Batman in the new DC Universe, even in a separate storyline from the Batman film directed by Matt Reeves. James Gunn responded directly: “No.”

Robert Pattinson wasn’t originally planned for James Gunn’s new DC Universe. However, there were earlier reports suggesting Gunn had considered bringing Pattinson’s Batman into the same world as David Corenswet’s Superman.

Matt Reeves Waiting on Gunn’s Superman

I heard something interesting – apparently, Matt Reeves was keeping a close eye on how James Gunn’s Superman movie was received by critics and at the box office. He wanted to see how that all played out before really locking in his plans for the future of The Batman sequels. It makes sense – you’d want to know the landscape before committing to a long-term project like that, right?

Now that Superman has hit theaters, the results aren’t in Gunn’s favor.

The movie didn’t perform as well at the box office as The Batman, and its numbers were significantly lower than those of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, even when comparing without considering inflation.

New Batman Still TBD

James Gunn’s recent statement indicates that if the Batman: The Brave and the Bold movie is made, it will star a different actor in the role of Batman.

As we’ve mentioned before, the future of James Gunn’s plans for the DC Universe largely depends on who buys Warner Bros. Discovery.

Gunn also confirmed his future was in question.
