James Gunn has made it clear that Grant Gustin won’t be suiting up as The Flash in the DCU.
After a fan shared a picture of Grant Gustin as The Flash on Threads and hoped for his return to the role, James Gunn quickly dismissed the idea, pointing out, “It happened on TV for 9 seasons.”

Why Fans Thought Gustin Might Return
The idea that Gustin could play the Flash in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe likely started because a recent photo showed him with blond hair, leading fans to speculate about the possibility.
It seems Grant Gustin’s recent change in appearance isn’t connected to The Flash and is actually for a different, currently unannounced project he’s involved in.
Gustin has also shot down playing the DCU’s The Flash.

Gustin’s Flash Legacy
Gustin portrayed Barry Allen for nine seasons on The CW’s The Flash, which ended in 2023.
Despite his popularity in the role, his future as DC’s Scarlet Speedster appears to be over.
Ezra Miller recently starred as The Flash in the DC Extended Universe films directed by Zack Snyder. It’s currently unclear if James Gunn, the new head of DC, intends to include any characters with super speed in the upcoming DC Universe.
