Sylvester Stallone Names The Film He Considers His Proudest Career Moment

Sylvester Stallone is famous for his action-packed movies and memorable characters, but he considers one project especially important to him.

You know, everyone always assumes my favorite work is either the original Rocky or First Blood, but I have to say, I’m most proud of Rambo from 2008. I was chatting with The Hollywood Reporter recently, and I told them that fourth Rambo film is the best action movie I’ve ever been a part of. It really dug into something raw and uncomfortable, and that’s what makes it special to me.

The film offers a harsh and realistic portrayal of the decades-long civil war in Burma, which had been ongoing for almost seventy years when the movie was made. Stallone has said he received strong criticism for the intense violence shown, admitting, “I got excoriated because the movie’s so violent.” However, he defends his choice to depict the war graphically, explaining that civil war is particularly horrifying because it pits neighbors against each other, making the conflict deeply personal.

Stallone was so dedicated to truthfully portraying the situation that he wasn’t even sure the movie would get released. He remembered thinking, “I was really happy with that film, and I never thought it would ever reach the theatre.” He believed it was important to show the harsh realities faced by those affected by the conflict, including the children, to fully convey the seriousness of the Karen people’s struggle.

Making Rambo IV was incredibly challenging, mirroring the film’s intense action. Stallone and his team filmed in areas very close to real war zones, which he described as a terrible place. He witnessed firsthand the horrific injuries suffered by landmine survivors. The movie also featured Maung Maung Khin, a former freedom fighter, playing the villain, even though he worried appearing in the film might lead to his arrest.

Even though he’s nearing 80, Sylvester Stallone shows no signs of slowing down. He just finished filming the third season of his popular Paramount+ series, Tulsa King, which launched in late 2025 and quickly became a hit. Created by Taylor Sheridan, the show follows Stallone’s character, Dwight “The General” Manfredi, as he builds his criminal operation in Oklahoma and deals with complicated family issues.

Later this year, a new movie called I Play Rocky will tell the story of Sylvester Stallone’s early career, focusing on the challenges he faced while trying to get the original Rocky film made. The movie, directed by Peter Farrelly, stars Anthony Ippolito as a young Stallone. Stallone himself won’t be acting in the film, but it’s a look at his personal journey to success.

Stallone has championed the project, recognizing that it embodies the same resilient and determined spirit that has defined his work for over fifty years.
