James Gunn seems to be hinting at more DC Universe plans with a playful post: a mock marketing meeting for ‘Chocos,’ the favorite snack of the DC Comics character, Martian Manhunter.
Gunn shared photos of what appears to be a planning session for Chocos cereal, featuring milk, cereal boxes, reports, and personalized folders.
One scene includes a large mural playfully imitating Oreo’s advertising, depicting enormous cookies falling into glasses of milk.
So what’s going on here?

A Deep-Cut DC Reference
In the comics, Chocos are an Oreo knockoff, and they’re Martian Manhunter’s greatest vice.
I first encountered those cookies back in the days of Justice League International, thanks to Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis. They quickly became a hilarious running joke, but it really took off when J’onn J’onzz became completely hooked! It’s become a classic bit – he’s been shown stashing them everywhere, constantly thinking about them, and his teammates have actually had to stage interventions to help him with his obsession. It’s just great comedic material.
The story has been adapted into animated series like Justice League Unlimited and Young Justice, and also appears in the video game Injustice.
But now it looks like James Gunn is bringing it to the forefront of the new DCU.

What the Photos Show
Gunn’s photos include:
- CHOCOs-branded marketing plans labeled “First Quarter – Marketing Strategy / Market Research”
- Graph reports and pie charts with cookie performance stats
- Branded milk bottles (yes, labeled “CHOCOs”)
- Product packaging that mimics Oreos — “So-oh-ohs”
- A display board with flavor variants and charts
- A full room mural with giant cookies bursting through milk
We’re not sure if this is a promotion, a set from a show, or just James Gunn being funny, but it’s detailed enough to seem like something bigger than a simple joke.

Is Martian Manhunter Coming to the DCU?
That’s the big speculation.
James Gunn hasn’t confirmed Martian Manhunter will be in the initial DC Universe projects, but this hint feels intentional and suggests he’s likely being considered.
This could be a treat for fans, or a hint of what’s to come, but it shows that the playful humor and rich backstory of the old Justice League International comics might be included in James Gunn’s new DC Universe – and that definitely makes sense given his comedic style.
And if Chocos are canon… J’onn might not be far behind.
Martian Manhunter might appear in Supergirl or, more probably, in the sequel to James Gunn’s Superman, titled Man of Tomorrow. This could bring a humorous element, potentially portraying Martian Manhunter as someone struggling with addiction.
The last time audiences saw the Martian Manhunter in a film was in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which revealed that the character of General Swanwick, played by Harry Lennix, was actually J’onn. Snyder included Martian Manhunter because Warner Bros. wouldn’t let him use the Green Lantern character, John Stewart.
