It looks like Ryan Reynolds might be returning as Deadpool before we think! After a lot of uncertainty about the character’s future, reports now indicate he’s actively involved in developing the next Deadpool movie.
According to Puck News, Ryan Reynolds is now concentrating on creating another Deadpool film. This follows previous reports suggesting Marvel Studios wasn’t prioritizing Deadpool 4 immediately after the strong performance of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ While Marvel is working on its larger Phase Six plans, Reynolds seems to be independently driving the creative process for the next Deadpool movie.
As a huge fan, I started to get worried when Ryan Reynolds wasn’t mentioned in the first announcements for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’! It really got people talking about whether Deadpool would be left out of the next big phase of Marvel movies. But there’s still a lot of buzz going around – some people are even saying Robert Downey Jr. might show up as a version of Reed Richards! Of course, Marvel hasn’t confirmed anything officially, so it’s all just speculation for now.
Back in late 2024, Reynolds suggested he was already brainstorming future projects, though he didn’t have any immediate plans for another Deadpool movie. He explained that he felt Wade Wilson, his Deadpool character, shines more when he’s part of a larger team. He specifically expressed his desire to see Deadpool and Wolverine team up again in some capacity.
Reynolds explained he’s keen to avoid repeating familiar story beats with Deadpool. He believes the character is at his strongest when he’s facing extreme challenges, and revisiting that scenario for a fourth time would feel repetitive. However, he emphasized that this doesn’t mean the films will lose their humor or excitement, and that there’s still a meaningful and impactful story arc for Deadpool to explore.
Recently, industry insider Daniel Richtman shared that the upcoming Deadpool movie isn’t planned as a typical solo adventure. Instead, it’s shaping up to be a team-up story, which aligns with ongoing speculation that Deadpool will join the X-Men or that Ryan Reynolds’ X-Force concept will finally be realized.

Beyond his work with Marvel, Ryan Reynolds has several other projects in the pipeline. He’s starring in the upcoming Apple comedy Mayday with Kenneth Branagh, expected in late 2026, and lending his voice to the animated film Animal Friends, which will be released in May. He’s also producing the Netflix thriller Eloise through his production company, Maximum Effort.
Ryan Reynolds’ most recent performance as Deadpool marked a significant achievement. The film Deadpool & Wolverine, directed by Shawn Levy, grossed approximately $1.3 billion globally, becoming the highest-earning R-rated movie in history. This demonstrated the character’s continued popularity with moviegoers.
Marvel hasn’t confirmed a fourth Deadpool movie yet. However, with Ryan Reynolds still heavily involved, it seems likely Wade Wilson will be back to stir things up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
