Chris Pratt Says Marvel Fans Attacked Him On The Streets Over This MCU Scene

Chris Pratt shared a story about how a scene from the movie Avengers: Infinity War unexpectedly impacted his life. He explained that the strong reaction from fans to the film led to some awkward situations when he was out in public.

Chris Pratt said some Marvel fans personally blamed him for events in the movie, and the negative reaction wasn’t limited to online comments. He described instances where fans approached him in person to confront him about his character, Star-Lord’s, choices. He shared this experience on the Out of Order podcast.

In Infinity War, Chris Pratt’s character, Peter Quill, makes a crucial mistake that allows Thanos to get away. This ultimately leads to Thanos eliminating half of all life in the universe. Many fans have criticized Star-Lord for this, and Pratt has said that the backlash became personally hurtful.

Pratt said that people would stop him on the street and ask him why he’d done something. He explained they seemed to think he had made a personal choice in the matter. “I didn’t do anything!” he’d tell them.

Pratt made a humorous comment, explaining that the film would have been much shorter without that particular scene. He joked that if Quill hadn’t acted as he did, both movies would have only been about thirty minutes long, effectively ending the story there.

The actor noted the experience felt unique because he wasn’t the central character. He explained that Infinity War wasn’t a Guardians of the Galaxy film in the traditional sense, and the overall feel and direction were altered due to the absence of James Gunn’s full creative control.

Even after facing criticism, Chris Pratt remains a successful actor. His latest film, the sci-fi thriller Mercy, topped the box office in January. Directed by Timur Bekmambetov, the movie is set in a future where artificial intelligence oversees the legal system. Pratt stars as a detective accused of murder, with Rebecca Ferguson providing the voice for the AI.

Chris Pratt will be back as Mario in the upcoming animated film, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, planned for release in April 2026. Brie Larson and Jack Black are also joining the voice cast. On TV, he’ll return as James Reece in the second season of The Terminal List, now titled True Believer, which is expected to premiere on Prime Video later this year.

Although Marvel hasn’t officially announced anything new, Chris Pratt has suggested there are still plans for his character, Star-Lord. He mentioned a clear idea for the future exists, but specifics are being kept under wraps.

As Pratt discussed regarding Out of Order, he’s accepted being associated with one of the most talked-about scenes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite fan reactions, he continues to take on prominent roles in film and television, remaining a public figure.
