Kristen Stewart is thinking about relocating her career to Europe and potentially leaving the United States. She told The Times of London that the current political situation makes her unlikely to stay in America.
Stewart stated that the current state of affairs feels like a complete breakdown of reality under Trump’s leadership, making it difficult for her to do her job. She suggested learning from his example by actively shaping the reality we desire. When asked about her future plans, she indicated she likely wouldn’t stay in the country, explaining she can’t work freely under these circumstances.
I was so relieved to hear Kristen Stewart isn’t giving up on directing! She jokingly said she’s planning to make films in Europe and then, as she put it, ‘shove them down the throat of the American people.’ I love her energy and can’t wait to see what she creates – especially if it’s a little provocative!
Several celebrities have recently made changes to where they live. Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi moved to England, and director James Cameron chose to stay in New Zealand, explaining on the In Depth with Graham Bensinger podcast that he values the country’s sense of community and logical approach to problems, especially compared to what he sees as chaos in the U.S. Rosie O’Donnell has also moved to Ireland and stated she plans to remain there until the current presidential term ends.
Stewart has had a strained relationship with President Trump for several years. In a 2017 interview with Variety, she revealed that he had been fixated on her a couple of years prior, describing it as “crazy.”
Even with recent political attention, Stewart is enjoying a successful career. She directed her first film, The Chronology of Water, in 2025, and it received a six-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival. The movie is a biographical drama starring Imogen Poots as author Lidia Yuknavitch, with Thora Birch and Jim Belushi also featured. Stewart also acted in the romantic thriller Rosebush Pruning with Elle Fanning and Josh O’Connor.
Kristen Stewart is interested in directing a new version of Twilight. She recently told Entertainment Tonight she’d like to direct the story herself. With her upcoming wedding to Dylan Meyer in 2025 and her growing success as a director, she’s described the last year as incredibly busy. Currently, she’s concentrating on independent films and working from a base in Europe.
Audiences will likely see Kristen Stewart continue to choose daring and unique projects that aren’t made by major studios. Her move to work outside the U.S. is a big change for someone who’s been famous in America since she was young, and it could encourage other actors to explore opportunities overseas.
