For over two decades, Evangeline Lilly has played memorable heroes in movies and TV. Now, she’s facing a tough personal challenge: recovering her neurological health. In early 2026, the actress, known for her roles in Lost and Ant-Man, publicly shared her journey, explaining the long and costly process of healing after a serious brain injury.
The trouble started in May 2025 when Lilly suddenly lost consciousness while at the beach in Hawaii, falling and hitting her face on a rock. Although doctors at the hospital focused on treating the cuts on her face, the long-term effects turned out to be much worse. By January, brain scans showed that most areas of her brain weren’t working as well as they should, as she explained.
After learning she suffered permanent brain damage, Lilly is now focusing on a very specific and expensive type of medical treatment. “I’m working with specialists to address the issues with my brain right now,” she explained in a recent video. She also noted that the quality of care she’s receiving is something many people can’t afford.
She feels lucky to be able to prioritize her health without financial worries. Currently, she takes a variety of supplements – like NAC, omega-3s, and curcumin – to address specific areas where she wants to improve cognitive function. While she prefers getting nutrients from whole foods, she believes supplements can be very helpful when the body needs extra support.
Lilly decided to openly share the costs and details of her recovery to help others understand brain health, especially those dealing with similar injuries. While her recovery plan was created just for her by specialists, she hopes sharing what she’s learned will make it easier for others to navigate the often-complicated process of recovering from a traumatic brain injury. As she explained to her followers, she wants to share her experiences in case anyone else is also dealing with the effects of a concussion or TBI.

Evangeline Lilly is currently taking a break from acting, something she first shared in mid-2024. After more than two decades in the film industry, including her popular role as Hope van Dyne in the Marvel movies, she’s said that while choosing a path different from the usual pursuit of wealth and fame can be frightening, finding your true purpose ultimately brings more satisfaction.
Although Lily hasn’t acted in anything new since Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in 2023, she’s now focused on helping others and pursuing her passion for writing.
Even while recovering, Lilly’s work continues to impact the entertainment world, and many Marvel fans are hoping to see her character make one last appearance in future Avengers movies. But for now, the actress is enjoying a peaceful life in Hawaii, and she’s found that dealing with recent health challenges has helped her value a more relaxed and calm lifestyle.
