D-Wave Quantum: 2025’s Rise & 2026’s Gamble

Right, let’s talk D-Wave. Because honestly, watching this stock in 2025 was… a ride. A very expensive, potentially delusional ride. Quantum computing was the hype of 2024, obviously. Everyone throwing money at the idea of quantum, which, let’s be real, is a bit like investing in teleportation. But D-Wave? They actually… moved. Shares skyrocketed over 854% last year. A bit much, even for me. And 2025? Well, it wasn’t that dramatic, but still. A 211.4% increase. It’s almost enough to make you believe in the impossible. Almost.

This Quantum Leap (Seriously?)

January to April? A bit of a wobble, actually. Down 17%. I started to think, “Okay, sanity is returning.” But then May happened. Honestly, I suspect someone slipped something into the company coffee. First-quarter results dropped, and suddenly, boom. Shares jumped 51%. They beat analyst expectations, sure – $15 million in sales, a tiny bit of profit (finally!) – but let’s not pretend it wasn’t a bit of a miracle. Dr. Baratz called it “significant.” I’d call it… interesting. Like finding a tenner in an old coat. You’re pleased, but you still don’t suddenly think you’re rich.

And it kept going. Analysts started getting… enthusiastic. B. Riley raised their price target to $33 (a 23% upside). Roth Capital went even further, $50. Fifty! I mean, good for them. I just started double-checking my own calculations. Then, in December, the company announced a unit to chase government contracts. Because, naturally, the government is the key to unlocking the quantum future. And a Bloomberg article dropped about the Trump administration wanting to keep up with China. Perfect timing, wouldn’t you say? It’s almost… too perfect.

What About 2026? (Don’t Ask Me)

As of today, the stock is down about 2% year-to-date. A little breather, maybe. But could it go higher? Absolutely. If they keep landing commercial deals, particularly with the US government, and if this whole quantum thing actually works in the real world… well, then we might be looking at something genuinely exciting. I’m just saying, I’ll believe it when I see it. When I see quantum computers solving actual problems, not just existing as very expensive science projects.

Look, let’s be clear. This is still speculative. A gamble. A very expensive, potentially delusional gamble. If you’re considering investing, you need a high risk tolerance. And a good therapist. Seriously. Because watching this stock is enough to give anyone anxiety. And I’ve seen a lot. A lot.
