Daniel Radcliffe’s Reveals Secret Soundtrack Why the Star Thinks This British Rock Band Should be Harry Potter Soundtrack

When the Harry Potter movies were incredibly popular, Daniel Radcliffe shared that he had a favorite type of music he believed perfectly reflected the feeling of the magical world created in the books and films.

I remember when I was still filming the last Harry Potter movies, I was really thinking about the music. I actually suggested Radiohead to do the soundtrack! To me, their music just felt right for Harry’s story – it was complex and a little dark, and I thought they could capture the emotional weight of everything he was going through way better than a typical orchestral score.

I remember reading an interview with Daniel Radcliffe years ago, back in 2009, where he talked about how surprisingly well Radiohead’s music actually fit the Harry Potter films. He pointed out that most people wouldn’t immediately think of a band like Radiohead when you mention Harry Potter, but he felt there was a real connection. He explained that the emotional depth of their albums just seemed to perfectly mirror what Harry was going through internally – it was almost eerie how well it matched his struggles.

Radcliffe often used music to get into the mindset of his character. He felt certain albums were surprisingly fitting for the movies and Harry’s feelings. He specifically mentioned OK Computer and Amnesiac, noting they had a distinct, dark quality that matched the tone of the later films.

The actor explained that as the series developed, it drew inspiration from British rock bands like the Manic Street Preachers and Hope of the States. He saw Harry’s journey as more than just a magical story, but as a fight against powerful, uncontrollable forces. He described it as ‘kind of angry and epic,’ explaining that it reflects the feeling of being caught in a whirlwind of politics and power where you have no control over your own life.

Radcliffe explained that the music reflected the frustration of a young person stuck in a conflict they didn’t ask for. He pointed out, “That lack of control is a major source of Harry’s anger.” Interestingly, members of the band Radiohead – Jonny Greenwood and Phil Selway – actually appeared in the films, performing as musicians in the Yule Ball scene from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Daniel Radcliffe continues to publicly support independent musicians and regularly donates his time and resources to charities that focus on young people’s reading skills and LGBTQ+ rights.

As a huge Harry Potter fan, I’m so excited to see the franchise getting popular again! It’s amazing that Warner Bros. is making a new TV series for HBO, set to come out in 2026 – it’s definitely bringing everything back to life!

Although Daniel Radcliffe isn’t likely to appear in the upcoming reboot, he’s expressed his encouragement for the new cast taking on the famous roles. He’s widely considered a Hollywood success story, having made a remarkably smooth and impressive transition from a young star to a highly respected and versatile actor.
