Patrick Schwarzenegger recently discussed what it was like being raised by his famous parents, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver. In a January 21, 2026 interview with Travel + Leisure, the actor from The White Lotus talked about memories from his childhood and where his family loved to travel.
Patrick described his childhood as a blend of international travel and experiences in California. While his father, Arnold, was making movies, the family frequently moved between the United States and Europe. However, after Arnold became Governor of California, they spent more time within the state. As Patrick explained, “My dad loved California because it had everything – beaches, skiing, mountains, and deserts.”
He shared how his California upbringing allowed him to experience a huge range of activities. He fondly remembered adventures like whitewater rafting and desert hiking, which instilled in him a deep appreciation for the state’s diverse landscapes. As he put it, “You can drive just an hour in any direction and feel like you’ve entered a completely new world.”
Patrick’s trips weren’t simply vacations. He also traveled to places like China, Greece, and Abu Dhabi representing the Special Olympics, an organization started by his grandmother, Eunice Kennedy Shriver. He fondly recalls one of his first experiences being a trip to South Africa for the games, describing it as a wonderful travel opportunity.
Patrick now balances his career with travel, often combining the two. He frequently takes his wife, Abby Champion, a model, with him when he’s filming on location. They got married in Idaho in September 2025 and have recently traveled through Europe and Thailand while he worked on the show The White Lotus.
