Fans of the Netflix series Alice in Borderland now know what’s next for the show, and unfortunately, it means there won’t be a season 4. Netflix has confirmed that the most recent season, which left viewers on a cliffhanger last September, will be the show’s last.
Netflix released its report, What We Watched: The Second Half of 2025, on January 20, 2026, along with its fourth-quarter financial results. ScreenRant first reported that the report’s viewership data indicated the show had completed its run.
Despite still being a hit – racking up around 25 million views in the last six months of 2025 – Netflix has chosen to cancel the show. In hindsight, there were signs that season 3 would be the last. The official trailer was called The Final Card, and some promotional materials in the UK included influencers suggesting the story was coming to an end.
The series concluded partly because director Shinsuke Sato is now working on a live-action My Hero Academia film for Netflix, with production starting this year. Since Sato is occupied with this new project, another season wasn’t feasible. Additionally, the show has already covered all the content from the original manga, bringing the story to a natural end.
Now report made by What’s on Netflix definitely cements the show’s fate.
The third season concluded with a surprising turn, relocating the story to Los Angeles and featuring a new character, Alice. While many viewers anticipated a fourth season would follow immediately, it now appears this ending might be paving the way for a separate spin-off series.
This strategy echoes the ending of Squid Game, which suggested potential stories set in different countries. While Netflix hasn’t announced a spin-off series, it’s definitely being considered.
Alice in Borderland initially centered on Arisu, portrayed by Kento Yamazaki, and Usagi, played by Tao Tsuchiya, as they struggled to survive a series of dangerous games in an abandoned Tokyo. Throughout its three seasons, the show skillfully blended thrilling physical competitions with complex psychological puzzles. While the central storyline has concluded, Alice in Borderland remains a highly popular and impactful Japanese series for Netflix.
