Jameela Jamil is currently in the news due to some strong opinions she shared privately. Recently released court records reveal text messages from August 2024 where the actress, known for “The Good Place,” criticized Blake Lively. These messages came to light as part of a legal case Lively brought against Justin Baldoni, her co-star and the director of “It Ends With Us.”
Jamil was in contact with Jennifer Abel, Blake Lively’s publicist, regarding a TikTok video criticizing Lively’s approach to promoting her movie as insensitive. Abel initiated the conversation by saying she felt strongly enough to use extremely harsh language to describe the situation, and she also stated that Lively was solely responsible for any negative reaction she received.
Jamil strongly responded to the criticism, saying she felt like people were treating her as if she were a villain. She was referring to the backlash Blake Lively received while promoting her new film. Many fans were disappointed that Lively seemed to focus more on her beauty brand and fun interviews than on the film’s important and difficult subject matter – domestic violence.
The text messages reveal the two women were critical of Lively’s efforts to address the public criticism she received. After facing backlash, Lively shared a link to a domestic violence hotline on social media. However, Jamil found this response unfeeling, calling it simply a list of statistics and a link.
During their conversation, both Jamil and Abel confessed they really disliked the actress from Gossip Girl. Jamil even said she was unlike any villain she’d ever seen and was completely ‘over.’ These messages are part of a bigger set of recently released documents, which also include texts from Taylor Swift and emails sent to Ben Affleck.
Someone close to Blake Lively has responded to the criticism, telling TMZ they’re saddened by the negative comments. They feel people are resorting to name-calling instead of actually listening to women who are speaking up, and that these attacks are happening to protect someone falsely presented as a supporter of women’s rights.
The lawsuit between Lively and Baldoni is highly contentious, with Lively asking for $161 million in damages. She alleges Baldoni sexually harassed her during filming, but he strongly denies the accusations. The trial has been delayed until May 18th to allow other cases to be heard.
While recent issues have been happening, Jameela Jamil has continued working on various projects. She recently starred in the Netflix movie ‘People We Meet on Vacation’ and is also providing the voice for a character in the upcoming film ‘Elio’.
I’m really excited to see what Blake Lively does next, even with everything going on legally. I just heard she finished filming the sequel to ‘Simple Favor,’ which I loved, and she’s also going to be in a new action rom-com called ‘The Survival List.’ Plus, I’m hoping she’ll do even more projects with Lionsgate – her deal with them is fantastic, and I’d love to see her continue working with them!
Will the recent leak of Jameela Jamil’s private messages change how people see the online conflict between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni?
