‘Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord’ Trailer Shows Sith Survivor Striking Back – Release Date Revealed

Darth Maul is a remarkably resilient character. Despite being cut in half by Obi-Wan Kenobi in The Phantom Menace, he managed to survive, fueled by his intense anger and determination.

After appearing in animated series and making a brief appearance as a crime boss in the movie Solo, a trailer has been released for a new animated series called Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord.

This project was initially hinted at privately during Star Wars Celebration Japan in April 2025, and now it’s being revealed to the public. The story is set roughly a year after the Clone Wars ended.

This period marks the very beginning of the Empire’s rise to power across the galaxy. The series explores how Maul transformed from a beaten warrior into the influential crime lord he eventually becomes.

Dave Filoni developed the series for Disney Plus. It centers on Maul’s efforts to establish a criminal organization on a planet untouched by the Galactic Empire, and his discovery of a new apprentice to teach his ways.

Okay, so the story sounds amazing! From what I’ve heard, it’s a really exciting, fast-paced adventure where Maul is trying to get his criminal empire back up and running on a planet the Empire hasn’t even touched yet. And get this – he meets a young Jedi who’s kind of lost faith in things, and Maul thinks he could be the perfect apprentice to help with his whole revenge plan. Seriously, it sounds like a really cool setup!

Fans will be happy to hear Sam Witwer is returning to voice Maul, as he’s known for his powerful portrayal of the character. Joining him are Gideon Adlon as Devon Izara, Wagner Moura as Brander Lawson, and Richard Ayoade voicing Two-Boots. Marvel is even expanding the story with prequel comics for some of these characters, starting in March.

Matt Michnovetz wrote the show, and Brad Rau directed it, while Lucasfilm Animation brought it to life with production. Viewers can expect to see the completed series very soon.

The series premieres on April 6th. New episodes will be available on Disney Plus every week, with two episodes released each time, leading up to the final episode on May 4th – a date known as Star Wars Day to fans.
