This is the second live-action Masters of the Universe movie. The first one, released in 1987, didn’t really capture the spirit of the cartoon or toys. This time, director Travis Knight seems to be much more dedicated to staying true to the original series. Castle Grayskull looks authentic, and – a big plus – Cringer actually transforms into Battlecat! While the first film also featured scenes on Earth, this new movie won’t be entirely set on Eternia either.
The new He-Man movie has been in the works for nearly two decades, with many different ideas and filmmakers involved. At one point, director John Woo and, later, Jon M. Chu (who’s now directing a Hot Wheels movie) were considered. The final version seems to be designed for families, aiming to please both kids and the original fans who grew up with the series. Initial reactions have been positive, so hopefully the years of development will result in a great film. Masters of the Universe will be released in theaters on June 5, 2026.
