Netflix Axes Two Fan-Favorite Shows, One Canceled After Just One Season

Netflix has unexpectedly canceled two of its series. One show was cut after only one season, while another ended after two.

I was really disappointed to hear that Netflix cancelled The Abandons. It was a Western set in the 1850s with a fantastic cast – Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson were both in it! The show followed an Irish woman and this found family she lived with, a group of adults who’d all been orphaned. They were constantly fighting to keep their land safe from this really ruthless silver mine owner. It’s a shame it won’t be back for a second season after just one.

From the beginning, making ‘The Abandons’ faced difficulties. Kurt Sutter, the show’s creator, left his leadership role before filming finished because of disagreements about the show’s direction. Plus, critics weren’t very impressed with the series.

Netflix has canceled the comedy series The Vince Staples Show, starring rapper Vince Staples. The show, which featured a fictionalized version of Staples and his life in Long Beach, debuted in 2024 and was renewed for a second season, but will not return for a third.

The comedy received mixed reviews. Aramide Tinubu highlighted some genuinely funny scenes, but also criticized the show’s inconsistent pacing and lack of clear direction, calling it ultimately frustrating to watch. She felt the creator, Staples, had many good ideas that weren’t fully developed.

Although some fans are likely upset by these cancellations, Netflix is still moving forward with new and returning shows. The company recently announced renewals for popular titles like Bridgerton, Nobody Wants This, The Hunting Wives, and Survival of the Thickest.

The news was first reported by Deadline.
