Rebecca Ferguson Reveals the Crazy Reason She Asked Tom Cruise for a Helicopter

Most people who get sick while traveling would contact a hotel or find a doctor, but Becca Ferguson does things differently. The 42-year-old actress recently shared with The Independent that when she became seriously ill during a trip to the Maldives, her immediate reaction was to call Tom Cruise.

Ferguson recounted calling a doctor while on vacation in the Maldives because she had a terrible stomachache. She was really scared at the time, worried it could be something serious – she even jokingly thought she might have a worm inside her.

Her husband, Rory St Clair Gainer, had a surprising idea. He suggested, “Tom could arrange a helicopter,” and Ferguson decided to ask. She remembered thinking, “Could I really get a helicopter?” and found the whole situation amusing.

It wasn’t as bad as she’d feared. She actually just had a stomach bug, and she joked about oversharing the details, saying, “I’m giving you too much information.”

Rebecca Ferguson and Tom Cruise have become good friends after working together on several Mission: Impossible films. She first played the character Ilsa Faust in Rogue Nation (2015), and continued the role in Fallout (2018) and Dead Reckoning (2023). Their strong connection likely gave her the confidence to ask him for help in an urgent situation.

Rebecca Ferguson has been steadily working on a variety of projects beyond the Mission: Impossible films. She’s earned praise for her role as Lady Jessica in Dune (2021) and Dune: Part Two (2024), and has appeared in movies like Doctor Sleep, Life, and the upcoming thriller A House of Dynamite (2025). On television, she stars in Silo, a dystopian series on Apple TV+ about people living in a massive, 144-story underground city.

Ferguson is now promoting her latest thriller, Mercy, alongside Chris Pratt.
