James Gunn Releases Full SUPERMAN Script Online

James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, is preparing to film Man of Tomorrow later this year, bringing together David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult as Superman and Lex Luthor – who will be portrayed as rivals with a complicated relationship. Before production ramps up, Gunn has shared the complete script for Superman with fans on social media. You can read it by clicking the link below. While it’s unclear if this is the very latest version used for filming, the script is titled Superman rather than its earlier name, Superman: Legacy, which suggests it’s an earlier draft.

We know this version of Superman is a later draft because of the opening text crawl. Director James Gunn has said he added it after showing the film to friends. Luckily, it works really well, immediately throwing viewers into the story. It’s interesting that the original Star Wars also got its opening text crawl from feedback – George Lucas’ friends suggested it after seeing an early cut of A New Hope. So, history seemed to repeat itself with Gunn’s Superman. And if your film is going to be compared to another, you could hardly ask for a better one than the original Star Wars.

James Gunn’s full Superman script is 132 pages, which isn’t particularly lengthy for today’s movies. Many dedicated DC Comics fans could likely read it all at once. It’s great that the shooting scripts will be made available online after the film’s release in theaters and digitally. It would be quite a surprise if Gunn even released some of the less successful DC movies – imagine if his next release was Catwoman with Halle Berry! That might just break the internet.
