+ The first and only costume skill that absorbs debuffs
+ Powerful damage amplification, even if the enemy does not apply debuffs
+ Both Granadair costumes are being released at once
- Granadair currently has a cooldown gap with her two costumes (cooldown every 7th turn)
Because Queen of Gluttis Granadair excels at magical defense, Shrine Maiden Granadair is best utilized within teams focused on magic.
- Requires a lot of focused investment, because the two costumes banners are being released at once
- May have some negative synergy with costumes that want to have debuffs applied (e.g. Tyr)
Granadair for PVE
Shrine Maiden Granadair is a brand-new support character with a unique ability: she can absorb negative effects, making her a really valuable addition to any team.
Shrine Maiden is a consistently powerful offensive buffer, even without absorbing any attacks. She provides a solid 120% damage boost to the team. Other buffers offer similar or greater boosts, but with conditions: Rafina gives 100% (plus extra attacks), Liberta provides 130% if the team builds up at least 10 chain hits, and Teresse offers 200% damage amplification, but only when the team has 5 or fewer chain hits.
The Shrine Maiden increases your damage output by 10% for each debuff she absorbs. So, if enemies apply five debuffs to your team, she’ll boost your damage by 50% (bringing the total damage amplification to 170%).
Paired with the attack boost from Queen of Gluttis Granadair, Granadair becomes a remarkably effective support character and stands out as one of the strongest attack boosters available.
In summary, Granadair is:
- Compared to Helena, better at offensive buffing for magic teams, but worse at defensive buffing
- Compared to Teresse, around the same power level, but who is better will depend on the specific enemy and your specific team comp.
See the Queen of Gluttis costume guide for more info.
Okay, so I love Granadair, but she’s not perfect. While Shrine Maiden is amazing on pretty much any team, her other form, Queen of Gluttis, only boosts magic attack. That kind of forces you to build a team around magic damage, which is a shame. If I’m trying to run a physical attack team, she’s way less useful because only one of her outfits really works well. It feels like a waste to only get to use half of what she offers!
Granadair differs from other 5-star support characters because she can’t directly defend or heal allies, aside from absorbing debuffs. This lack of defensive and healing abilities can make surviving challenging in the toughest late-game content, such as level 10+ fiend hunts. It’s particularly tricky because Granadair actually requires her team to be targeted by harmful attacks so she can absorb those effects.
Also, Granadair doesn’t work well with Tyr. Tyr relies on a specific debuff that lowers her skill point cost to deal the most damage, but Granadair removes that debuff, hindering Tyr’s ability to increase her damage output. It’s possible that future character costumes will be designed to work best with specific debuffs.
Granadair for PVP
Let’s talk about Granadair’s stats, as she’s a new character. Even though she’s small, she’s tougher than you might expect, with 4011 base HP and 10% base Magic Resistance. Here’s how that compares to others:
- Helena has base HP of 2016
- Liberta has base HP of 3885
- Diana has a base HP of 4011 (same as Granadair).
Granadair is incredibly durable and survives well in player-versus-player combat, effectively functioning like a tank. Her starting health is nearly twice as high as Helena’s.
In Mirror Wars, Shrine Maiden Granadair isn’t a strong choice because her ability costs a lot of SP. At 3 SP, it’s too expensive for a support skill, and using her early in your turn could leave you with insufficient SP to activate your attackers’ abilities. For these reasons, she’s generally not recommended for this game mode.
Okay, so I’ve been trying out Shrine Maiden in Golden Colosseum, and honestly, she feels a little weak right now. She could be really good if a lot of players start using characters that focus on debuffs – she’s built for that! But as it stands, she’s just not cutting it in competitive matches. The biggest issue? Her area-of-effect skill. It’s great for normal levels and even regular PvP, covering almost the whole map. But Golden Colosseum has these huge arenas sometimes, and her AOE just doesn’t quite reach everything, which really holds her back.
Exclusive gear
Granadair’s unique armor doesn’t improve how well she supports her team. It simply boosts her health. While this can help her survive longer in player-versus-player combat, it’s not essential, and it barely makes a difference in player-versus-environment content. You shouldn’t prioritize spending resources to obtain this gear.
Conclusion
Definitely recruit Granadair. She’s as strong as other top-level support characters and will be essential for magic-focused teams when tackling challenging end-game PvE content. It’s best to get both of her costumes if possible.
PS here’s a little bonus: Granadair’s artwork from Brown Dust 1!
