Piers Morgan is recovering in the hospital after a fall that needed surgery. The 60-year-old shared details about what happened on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram on Sunday, January 18th, including updates on his recovery.
Morgan shared that he broke his femur after tripping on a step at a London hotel restaurant, requiring hip replacement surgery. He described the injury as severe, stating he needed a new hip and would be using crutches for six weeks while recovering in the hospital. He also mentioned he’ll need to avoid long flights for the next twelve weeks, but maintained a positive outlook, jokingly referring to the start of the new year as a “cracking start!”
Just had a bit of a mishap! I tripped on a small step in a London hotel restaurant and unfortunately fractured my femur – badly enough that I needed a hip replacement. I’m now recovering in the hospital and will be using crutches for the next six weeks. This also means no long-distance travel for the next twelve weeks. Definitely not the New Year’s start I was hoping for! And, for the record, I’m blaming Donald Trump.

He posted a selfie from the hospital, giving a thumbs-up despite having an IV and being on oxygen. Known for his humor, Morgan jokingly blamed President Donald Trump for the accident, saying, “I blame Donald Trump.” He also shared an x-ray of his hip fracture, clearly showing the break near the joint.
Morgan confessed the fall was not only physically painful but also humiliating. He explained to someone who reached out that the embarrassment was actually worse than the pain itself, adding that he felt like he’d simply collapsed, like a ‘sack of potatoes’.
You know, it’s not the first time Morgan’s turned a hospital stay into something a little funny. Back in 2019, he ended up in the hospital with some stomach problems – gastritis and duodenitis, to be exact. He playfully blamed it on a vegan sausage roll, but then jokingly threw in Brexit and Trump as contributing factors. He really has a knack for finding the humor in things, even when he’s not feeling well!
He once shared a humorous account of a health scare, noting, “Monday, 6:40am: I had one bite of a vegan sausage roll. Friday, 11am: I was in the hospital for a gastroscopy because my insides were inflamed and causing problems. I’m connecting the dots.” He also quipped about being sedated, saying, “I don’t remember any of the procedure – sedatives are amazing!”
Morgan recently gained attention for an interview he did in September with Rob Reiner, who sadly passed away a few months later along with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner. During the conversation, Morgan told Reiner, “You seem very healthy, but if we ever need to look back on your career and remember your best work, what would you want people to remember you for?”
Reiner explained that everyone has a favorite, joking that it’s common to say you love all your children equally, even the ones who cause trouble. He personally feels that Stand by Me is the film that resonated with him the most.
Just three months after speaking with us, Rob and Michele Reiner were tragically found dead at their home. Their son, 32-year-old Nick Reiner, was arrested the next day and is currently being held in jail without the possibility of bail.
Piers Morgan recently being hospitalized reminds us that anyone can experience unexpected health issues. Even while dealing with pain and recovering, he’s managed to stay positive and keep his followers informed.
